backdated to 4/12, welcome to ultimate nerd hell

James Barnes shared a photo.
April 12 near Recolle

There's got to be at least one comics nerd on here. Someone explain to me what all these old comics are supposed to be, and why they all have me in them.

And before you say "just google it," I did and I couldn't find anything. I have no idea where Retrospec dug these up from.

Also, I've got one free ticket to the shooting range I'm willing to share. The only catch is you have to be 18+ and willing to take me too. Let me know if you're interested.

((To view the comics in larger size/more detail, click here. There was no way i was gonna manage to embed that in a DW post. EDIT: also i added a bit to this post at 4/17 11:38 EST because I was a dumbass who forgot to include it originally, sorry for any possible confusion! ))

When you touched them, they made you insanely homesick and you fled the building. They were in these glass tubes, and were the only things in the office the last I visited. We had to write a "Mad Lib" to get into the building, and when we left, reporters accosted us about what we'd written.

Surreal doesn't begin to describe that day.

I don't think most of them actually broke the glass to touch the rocks, and really, most of us tried very hard to forget the reporters. I think a lot of us don't really like getting into the details of Retrospec's building because none of it actually makes sense.

One must assume that they have to be sloppy somewhere, given how they behave. It is probably our only real chance at learning something legitimately worth learning, isn't it?

It takes a certain amount of time to really get your head around failing repeatedly as one step closer to the final victory. But, yes. They have to beat us down every time they play their games with us, but in the end we only really need to beat them once to finish the job, don't we?

Hmmm, I've never played, but I think I know enough. Something like that.

I lived alone with my mother for sixteen years? We didn't have much need for it.

Well, it wasn't something that mine taught to me, but perhaps others do? We had little need for it back at the vineyard, after all.

We read books, and generally we didn't argue that much? So, I suppose I don't know? I mean, my mother and I got along just fine most of the time.

Not exactly? I lived in a vineyard in the foothills of the Pyrenees. We had very few neighbors, and most were the studious, hard working and humorless sort, so we didn't see much of that kind of banter? Months could go by with my only seeing one or two people regularly, outside of the harvest season.

Well, a winery, but in a way. And not really. I never knew what I was missing out on?

Student Exchange Program and a student visa, and I decided to avail myself of the land of opportunity and get my citizenship, looking to help my mother and girlfriend move her one of these days.

It is a bit of the classic trope, is it not? And the wine here is awful, simply awful. I did not come for what you Americans call liquor, believe me.

I am not much older, but the drinking age in France is a few years younger than it is here. Quite a few, in fact. So I am, shall we say, much more familiar.
