*flickers lights on and off* welcome to hell!! welcome to hell!! welcome to hell!!

SURVEY
does anybody remember recolle existing at all in whatever world you're remembering stuff from
bc i havent met anyone who does so far
even when people remember plenty of places that do exist like towns in japan or countries and cities in europe
i haven't seen anyone who remembers recolle yet
if anyone does remember it speak up now
if no one does then it must mean....something
idk what

other than that
if anyone wants to go looking for the tunnels that we found in august don't bother
i just tried them and they're basically gone
like they never even existed
can't even find the entrances to them
the same might happen to the new ones too after a while
so if you want to go looking in them do it sooner rather than later

EDIT 1/23/18: if any rich people are willing to donate a gopro to livestream the subway tunnels
hmu
we're trying to find out what happens when they close up next too

Okay that makes a lot more sense. You say 'GoPro' and my first thought was those people that strap them on and run over buildings.

Yes. Niihama, Ehime Prefecture. But. Mm, how do I put this?

What I've been seeing is a lot more built up than Niihama is right now. Geographically, it's a little isolated to be such a major metropolitan area that I'm seeing.

Uh.

So.

Funny story.

I can give you full footage of the trips I took down there. Might be shaky, but it's all there.

[Togusa's next message is a picture. It is a shot of Togusa looking directly into a mirror. But he isn't holding a camera, or his phone, or anything else. So how did he take the picture?]

As for Niihama, maybe it's just a question of how far in the future what Retrospec is showing me is. Then Tokyo would have to be massive. But.

It's odd that a National Public Security Bureau would be centered in Niihama, not Tokyo.

I just took that photo. Right now. Oh, you can figure this one out. So where's the camera?

Well. Okay. Here's what's weird about it. Quick geography lesson. Remember that we're really talking about a series of islands.

Tokyo is there in the green section, while Niihama is in Ehime, the purple section. It's a completely separate island, technically. One with a lot of mountainous areas, too. So, that's how isolated I mean.

It's in my eyes.
My entire brain got an upgrade. Everything I see and hear can get stored digitally now. Like converting the way your memory normally works into a new format.

Little more complicated than that. Functionally, though, yes. I can store anything that I see and hear, anything that I remember. I just got back a way to store them externally, so I need to test out how well other people can see what I have seen. If anybody needs a second look at what I saw in the tunnels? I think I can give it to them.

Hunh. Haven't given that a try yet.

It'll take me a bit hooked up to the machine, but, got any special requests?

Let me try it.

[It is many hours later when Togusa comes back to the messages, he has tried everything he can think of.]

Sorry to say the short answer is no.

Long answer: I tried pulling the memory directly, and it was like it couldn't find the file. So I thought I could trick it by pulling the day I remembered what I remembered? It's like there's a gap in the pulled footage. It literally can't record the memory.

I'm actually more curious than annoyed at this.

[At first, Togusa gives his screen a puzzled look, but then he gets it. The most mundane thing possible. He truly does need to look it up.]

[The answer is another visual image from Togusa, of his own computer screen. A shot of himself, two weeks ago.]

Blue button-down, grey slacks.

I'd used this to look up vital things, but can we talk about how weird it is that I have literal photographic memory now?

I couldn't actively bring that up until I looked it up, though.

Oh! So! I actually looked this one up! And everyone I've talked to thinks I'm right.

So, technically, anything you experience gets stored in your brain in some manner or another. Short-term or long-term memory, whatever. You process it, it's in your brain somewhere. You forget things because you just never touch it again. Never recalled, it decays over time.

Essentially, all the cyberbrain is doing is allowing for recall. Whatever you wore two weeks ago is somewhere in your brain, too. But you probably haven't thought about it since, so figuring out how to recall it would take too long.

So it doesn't actually increase my storage. I'm also betting that if something is stored incorrectly, it'll still come out incorrectly. Tatsuo wants to try taking me out and getting me really drunk to see what happens when I pull the memories back up.

It's for science, I swear.
