ATTENTION RECOLLE HIGH STUDENTS!

Ever wanted to perform in a musical? Now is your big chance!

This Spring our school will be putting on a production of Villainous the story of how the Evil Witch Melfaba from the Land of Droz was once best friends with the Good Witch Kalinda. Those of you who are musical fans have likely heard at least a song or two from it. Take a listen to the Broadway soundtrack if you haven't.

This semester's drama club is too small so auditions will be open to any and all students of Recolle High. Please show up with a prepared song and monologue for speaking/singing roles. It doesn't have to be from the play but make sure you choose an audition piece that really shows off your abilities. Audition songs will be performed without instrumental accompaniment so I can clearly hear your voice. Keep that in mind.

Auditions will be held after school on Monday in the auditorium. If you have any questions comment here or come see me between classes!

It sounds like something fun... quick question, though: for song auditions, do the songs have to be in English?

[Ami isn't 100% familiar with the plot of Villainous, but she knows enough through osmosis and/or the local Hot Topic sometimes playing the soundtrack that ... y'know. maybe she could play Melfaba? If nothing else, it's the one role that won't be ruined whenever her skin turns grey.]

is it still ok to audition if youve never been in a play before?

Between you and me it was singing one of the numbers at a karaoke bar that inspired me to choose this for the Spring musical. People really responded to it. Strangers were singing along.

You can sing a song in any language you like! The point is to choose something that will show me what your voice is like, lyrics don't have to be in English necessarily for that.

Definitely okay! All experience levels are welcome to give it a try.

Yes! Normally those in the company have to take care of backstage duties since we aren't a professional troupe with staff. Volunteers to help with that would be great!

There are twelve principal roles that involve more talking and singing or dance ability, plus the company which I'm trying to find at least fifteen people or so to fill out. If you'd like to stick to a smaller role let me know when you show up at auditions.

No. I don't see any reason to limit the cast by that. If you have the drive and the talent to do the part justice and you don't mind the costume then audition for any role you like.

We'll meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for a couple hours right after classes are out starting Feb 5th. Then in April as we approach the premier at the start of May we'll be scheduling some additional rehearsals to polish everything and take care of dress rehearsals. You might be able to skip some rehearsals or go home earlier depending on the role you get. Larger roles mean more rehearsal time will be required.

I'd put priority on set construction and painting but if you know someone with sewing skills who would be willing to help update the school's costume wardrobe I certainly wouldn't turn them down.

I'm sure you've noticed at least a couple students in your classes that have some sort of dancing talent.

They really are! Any good musical has at least a few songs in it that make people want to sing along. This one has a bunch of them! Not to mention a number of themes in the story that teens can relate to.

Technically but don't overextend yourself! I don't know how much work you have from those clubs, plus there's class. I wouldn't want anyone to get sick from stress. Use your best judgement. If you want to be involved but can't take the time to join the cast you can always help as an usher or selling tickets the nights of the performances instead.

I'm transitioning out of acting. I know some people who are good at make up. I don't know anybody in school who can sew.
But I can help with construction and painting.
