I like spooky more than scary

What's the difference?

like um

scary things are there to harm you to make you go away or die

spooky things can hurt you but if they do it's probably so you learn

[playdolls]

You could learn from this.

Now, now, this is what dolls are for. For play, for practice, for imagining.

[lalliho]

it sounds like a threat? maybe try saying it without the now now

I was trying to reassure you that it wasn't so scary!

My point is, that looking at a doll takes away all the prejudices you'd see when looking at another person, they're a clean slate to project ideas onto.

[lalliho]

I feel pretty prejudiced looking at that scary doll

[playdolls]

You should think about why it scares you. Is it the inhuman thing feigning humanity?
Is it that human resemblance, but just ever so slightly wrong? Or is it the cruelty done to them? All those things can tell you a little bit more about yourself.

[lalliho]

I don't like the way she looks at me and is missing the back of her head

[playdolls]

That something 'dead' would still have sight. Do you know why that is?
It's because we find it disturbing that something we otherwise consider mindless might have some kind of consciousness and awareness after all. It erodes our sense of power and control.

[lalliho]

I don't think it counts as dead since it was never alive

[Not the main point, but he's trying to regain the comfort he had with spirits and stuff, after unwelcome memories. Death was natural! This doll was not. And neither was this assessment, even if he has the chilling ache in his bones that suggests Pitou might be onto something.]

that shouldn't mean I think it's thinking about hurting me right away

I know, it's a complicated paradigm for some people to wrap their heads around.
