You know, I think some April Fool's pranks are okay! Like the silly ones they do on websites or the really good natured kind. But I am LESS okay with someone changing the ENTIRE layout of our entire building and giving us treasure maps to go around it which for the record my brother-in-law did and it's a pain!! There's some weird effects coming in from outside this planet at the moment, although they'll mostly miss the city itself. There'll be a localized temporal storm, but it shouldn't be more than a mild irritation. It looks like it's just going to yank some things around and send them on through. I think Maurice is going to call out sick that day, or if I were him I definitely would. Hey, I kind of want a four-leaf clover. I know that's more last month than this month, but still. If you find one, pass it along. Also, I want to do a cutesy April Fools thing, so don't get too mad! Joanne Wiseman Technician 2nd class Retr ![]() For the remainder of the day all users will have their userpic replaced with a picture of them dressed as their favorite animal. It's pretty harmless as far as pranks go, and it will change back either at midnight or after trying to change the picture twice, prompting an "Are you sure?" message but no further ill effects.
Per the mod plotting post, you may use this post to obtain one of this month's freebies! This month's freebie can be earned by turning in a thread on this post that has 5 or more consecutive comments from you with someone new. We define someone new as someone new to the game, or simply someone your character has never tagged before. Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. |

Most of the business is reserved for the beginning of the month, actually.
I'm not sure if it's from being thrown a bone by retrospec, the convenience of something everyone's going to look at, or the primal human urge brought forth by the internet to be as inconvenient and unhelpful as possible.

right, that entire internet theory
though it changes a bit without the anonymity aspect

but you still have to face these people eventually i'd guess

I guess you could just ignore and avoid them.
It is a big city, and the new regions are pretty nice too.
[Are they talking about retrospec, or the elephant in the room...?]

it was a lot harder to do that where i started out
but it's fair in a city like this maybe
no subject
What's the place you started out at like?
no subject
the town i'm from is pretty self-contained
the community is pretty close there
everyone knows everyone, everyone is familiar with everyone's business
just the way of things
no subject
I bet it's peaceful.
If you wanted a place that's the total opposite of that, you found it.
I guess everyone on retrospec is a little more like that.

another way is "nothing much happens"
i'm here because i want to see the world
no subject
I think it's safe to say that this is the best place for seeing the world now though.
Or the fun world that belongs in an rpg.

Life's pretty busy here but after a decade it gets pretty routine and you accept that everything's going to be sort of average from here on out.
And then one day you open up your phone and some app called retrospec is here, horses stopped existing, some asshole named Jim is being enough of a jackass to make a meme out of himself...
The colors blue and green go missing, you shrink to the size of an eraser for a while, you learn you can fix the horses and the sky if you check off the right section on a survey.
The monster apocalypse breaks out, a few dozen people are whisked off on adventures and have to learn how to hunt and make campfires really fast.
You curse yourself a little for not clicking asshole Jim's link to a wikihow on how to make a fire.
You also curse yourself for watching all six minutes of his wedding proposal video.
A few months and more oddities pass. You bring the horses back, but some are still chocobos.
You thank everything that the dancing fruit hasn't disappeared and you can still unnerve your weak willed roommate.
Everything goes dark for a month as the sun's literally blocked out.
After that, it's time to go branch out and really see the world.
Befriend a wolf spirit.
Beat up some monsters.
Where in the world are you going to go to get even a little of that excitement?

Read this?
It's a little dated, but it gets most of the important stuff and also doesn't fall on April 1st.
