-I was cutting up vegetables and scratched a finger
-it'd be great if someone could give advice relatively soon because I don't know how long 'I need to lie down and then I'll talk to you about it' will work, he's still panicking he's just not demanding an answer right this second

That's good to hear. If he really forgot either pretending that you don't know what he's talking about or claiming it's blood that's on its way back to your heart might be the best idea. Or maybe saying that you ate something with a lot of food dye? I'm not sure he'd buy that though.
