Does anyone know why people lose their memories when they lose their network access?

Uh. Kara's forgotten everything. I was out pouring snow on the fires, and then... yeah. Our dog's gone, too, but I guess it's because she got him from Retrospec. Most of my friends forgot, too. It feels pretty lonely around now, but... anyway, just letting you guys know.

[Lina is indeed pretty fast. In fact, she zooms right over like a speeding car running down the street. She stumbles to a halt and looks around.]

Mr. Tsushima?

[No robot in sight! (Probably pacing around the hospital parking lot again.) It's just Shuji outside the library.]

You know I said you don't have to call me that, right?

Sorry... [She sighs, scuffing her feet on the ground.] Yeah, I -- I'm here.

We can talk about my robot coworker, or I can give you a hug first. Your pick.

[...he will, at some point, probably hug her unless she tells him not to. She seems like she needs it.]

[Lina sniffs.]

It's okay. I mean it! I mean, she's fine, and we all knew this would happen, it's happened to basically all my friends here and...

[Okay, no, she's going to just kind of flop on him. She can't really hug in this emotional state without being afraid of breaking him in half.]

[He has better control and not nearly as enhanced strength, so he hugs her tightly, but not tight enough to be uncomfortable or hurt.]

I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to go through this.

[She shudders and sniffles on him.]

The worst is no one knowing why you're sad. Why you feel like they died even though they're still here.

They're still there, but they remember things differently than you - they're missing such important moments between you, and it hurts.

[He understands that pain intimately.]

And if you try to tell them, no matter how close you are, they won't believe you.

Why? That's just... it makes no sense!

[She gasps the last bit, struggling for air.]

Even the Retrospec people don't want this to happen, so why?

I know... I know.

[He rubs her shoulder gently.]

We'll put a stop to this. I promise, even if it takes longer than any of us want - everyone will remember someday.

[Very, very carefully, she hugs Shuji back.]

We will. I know that we will.

[He feels it with certainty that isn't native to him. This is too important to be affected by optimism or pessimism - this just is.]

[Lina cries, clinging to him tightly, or at least it'll feel that way to him no matter how she's holding back.]

I -- yeah. Thanks. I'll try my best, Mr. Shuji. Even if I'm not that great.

[Sometimes you cry, and that's okay. Shuji's a little watery-eyed too.]

I can't speak for anybody else, but... I think you're pretty great.

...I'm gonna try for everyone. I'm not the greatest Supergirl, but I guess now I'm the only one.

[Aside from when she wasn't Lina Ellis but we aren't talking about that now.]

It depends, I think. But for a living thing, they wouldn't just put it down. I'm sure someone is looking after your dog.
