Three options for you.

1.) We test the timelines based on the ideas of people who went backwards and checked into things. You know who you are. Like I said before, we have three tries to check to try and improve the situation.

2.) We just charge straight ahead and hope for the best.

3.) We actually come up with a plan with volunteer basis, split you guys into groups, and proceed from there.

As I've mentioned, Mr. Murdock raised a proposition of having volunteers for the Retrospec project to prove themselves to Vanderweele and get him to back off the project. Mr. Togusa changed the contract in the past that Retrospec will go public, more or less, when the first world has reached full completion. Ms...Anna (Anna it's too weird to call you by something proper) has volunteered herself to jump forward to a degree where she's regained her abilities, powers, and strength.

So if you see double, don't be alarmed.

Here's the thing. No matter what path we take, it's always been the same. The end has always been about stopping Vanderweele's influence over the city and shutting down his power. While there are a lot of ways we can do that, it's always been that ultimate goal to get the city back to what it was. Release people memories. Adjust everything. All that. The pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place to give us a clue of what we're supposed to do here.

Under the ocean there's a base in a trench hidden away. The further you go, the less the water appears. It's displaced, but the pressure of the ocean itself might kill you before you get down there unless we loosen the binds.

We have two objectives here: destroy the eye that's feeding his defenses in the city, and destroy the base in the ocean to siphon his power out and stop what's been started.

Pick a side. Once you know your strengths and weaknesses, we'll have a better sense of how to attack and take him by surprise.

Got it?

Fixing the city? That's "finishing" its regrowth. And taking away his power means sending memories and energy back to where it belongs.

This is going to be the last thing I'll ask of you guys. So...think on that.

Sooooo.... this is awkward.

I know I was like "hell no" about volunteering to deal with Vanderweele and like...be one of those seed things. But...

I just got a memory of my other self, Draco, going back in time to save his son and to prevent a daughter of an evil wizard from bringing her father back to life and screwing up time for the whole wizarding world.

So... perspective I guess?

So what I'm saying is... I'm willing to help out and volunteer and like put my life on the line.

[Oh my gosh Derek, can you be more awkward???]

2. That's what everyone has done every month regardless, so why change now? Just get this thing over with already. Going back isn't a way forward, it's wasting time to rehash things that have already taken place. That's not progress, and that isn't going to make anything easier.

I'm still unsure of what is needed of the people chosen as anchors for that first idea. I don't know if we need to go into the past to verify what Tatsuo and I did to the contract.

But once this works, Retrospec is finally going to have to face something for what they've done.

Screw Vanderweele. If you absolutely need me there, fine. Of all the skills I've gotten from the other Togusa, surprise, SCUBA certification is one of them. But my priority is to bring Retrospec's crimes to light.

One part of what Zee and I talked about needs a volunteer that is comfortable with the world that we are seeing existing. As much as the other Togusa's world needs to exist? I need to stay here. If we're going to move forward with an investigation, my job is here. But who actually likes what they are seeing?

Well, then, how do you feel about water?

[personal profile] flametheif40 2019-06-02 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not exactly sure, but whatever it is, it should be done with our own hands without losing everything we gained from all the shit.

I have a powerful fire spell that I haven't used yet, I don't think I would feel comfortable using it in the presence of an illusionist, so, I guess maybe take a shot at the eyeball thing?

I should be able to fly at some point...hopefully sooner rather than later.

Depending on what the volunteer thing is, I might sign up, but taking Vanderweele down, making sure we can live and...I suppose the project must go on.

Who knows how much good the project can ultimately bring, even if there are bumps on the way.

Fuck. If inside the damn ocean's where Vanderweele's been hiding this whole time?

There's got to be a way to get you down there.

WOOOO! Wait "something" for what they have done?

Look, they have done shady shit, I agree, but trying to punish Retrospec above all else?

How would the law even begin to enforce whatever ruling they would dish out, when, arguably, whatever the law has could very well be a result of whatever Retrospec did!

Not to mention, they have time travel and can alter reality, supposedly the things that happen to us, like October was their "mistakes"

What if they actually meant to do us and the city harm?
standalonehuman: (TogusaThoughtful2)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2019-06-02 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
They did mean it. Whether by malice or by sheer ignorance, they meant to do harm. And boy have they done it.

But my job is to collect evidence so that the justice system of Recolle can make the determination. I trust in that system to be able to get a resolution, once they can see everything that has happened to everyone in this city.

Oh, that is no doupt, harm they did.

Even if we buy the good reason of restoring worlds, bringing souls back from the brink and all that jazz, harm was done along the way. Intentional or not.

I'm just not sure if the law CAN handle this, if one technicality goes wrong, Retrospec could just get a slap on the wrist and just do this again.

The only other option is to do nothing. And, it isn't as if the law only gets one pass at them. Separate cases can be brought up for weapons distribution, telecommunications violations, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, commerce violations, labor violations.

Turns out being responsible for the surgical removal of someone's eye or limb counts as assault.

And then, compound it with a minimum of 400 civil suits eligible to be brought up by everyone who has ever been on the app. Each of which is going to have to be tried separately because the level of harm done to, for example, myself, versus James Barnes? Can't be counted on the same scale. So they can't wrap us up into a class action.

There are a lot of chances for the law to get it right.

HUH. So it DID end up involving that evil wizard.

So basically, we need someone who is okay with the world from their past life being finished. But because we don't know if our souls get pulled back once that world is complete, whoever volunteers needs to be okay with going back?
standalonehuman: (TogusaHeadScratch)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2019-06-02 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I.. think? It's so damn hard to tell from what Zee was saying, but I think there's a chance of that happening.

At least, it has to be a risk that whoever volunteers has to be accepting of.
thisloveisjustice: (Default)

[personal profile] thisloveisjustice 2019-06-02 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Damn. Because while I don't mind my old world being finished, since tbh it's pretty much your standard Earth, I can't go back there. For so many reasons.

[Mariko. His family. Mariko. He knows what happened to him in his old life. Mariko. Like, if it came down to it, and absolutely no one else can, he'd do it. But pls no.]

You know that I understand completely.

[Hikari..]

Maybe the conflict is different, but I understand. It all came up because I was asking Zee how do we do it? How do we restore that world but keep our lives here?

[personal profile] flametheif40 2019-06-02 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, we have other options, if we can find a way to tip the balance of power so it's roughly even, they will naturally have to regard us as equals.

They NEED us, this entire shit storm, proves it, that we can make them bleed if we put our minds to it like when Zee was killed, proves it.

I alone, could probably raze a good chunk of the city, but as long as I control my own hands, I won't, because here is my home, my family, not because the law tells me not to.

The law, can't be our only option, there MUST be something else we can do to give them some more than just the law holding them back from doing more harm.

Yeah, if I was Vanderweele I could just teleport down there.
standalonehuman: (TogusaThoughtful)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2019-06-02 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
What balance of power? Sure, they need volunteers if they were going to keep operating. But the entire point is to stop this from continuing.

Let me rephrase it, then. The law is my only option. Not only is it my job, this is the thing I believe in above all else. And it's one of the things that the other Togusa and I seem to agree on. No matter which way you look at the existential question surrounding this, I would be doing the same thing.

This is what I've worked on since the second I found myself on the app. Everything was leading to this point.

As a civilian, I know that you'll feel differently. People outside the system will of course feel more powerless about a process like this. But you're going to have to trust us. You'll get your day in court, too.
standalonehuman: (TogusaEyeRoll)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2019-06-02 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he can teleport.

So, speaking of which, that might be the answer. Somebody scouts ahead, and then you "beam me down, Zee."
psykick: (⇒ unsure)

[personal profile] psykick 2019-06-02 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Do you mean that if we complete the world in our memories, we might get idk pulled back there?

I mean, I think there's still a lot of stuff I haven't remembered yet, but my old world was pretty neat. Sure, I've remembered some gnarly stuff, like someone dropping a tanker ship in the middle of Shinjuku and taking over the Diet building. But if I got pulled back into that life, I think I'd be okay.

Not that I really want to go there. But I'd be okay.
standalonehuman: (TogusaTalk2)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2019-06-02 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I will be 100% honest. This has only been a working assumption that a lot of us have been going off of. It has NEVER actually been said what happens when a world completes.

Given how expendable that Retrospec treats us in Recolle? We've always assumed that the other life would overtake this one, and we would get sent back there, yes.

But no, I need to emphasize that I don't know that for sure.
psykick: (⇒ unsure)

[personal profile] psykick 2019-06-02 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I think I could go either way. Giant eyeball or underwater base. I wonder if my phasing would help protect against water pressure. I know it protects against heat.

Also. Anyone remember a little while back when I had a penguin chick following me around? Luckily it vanished after a few days. Kind of glad I had that experience now. Because I got a mailbox ticket. And Pengy came out.

[insert pic of this cute penguin here]

Fun fact. Pengy can fly! And grant flight to anyone touching her. I know she can carry at least two people from a memory. But if anyone wants to help me test her weight limits, that would be cool.

[personal profile] psykick 2019-06-02 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
But you also can't say for sure that it WON'T. So it's something we should still bear in mind.

[personal profile] thisloveisjustice 2019-06-02 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know.

If he's got any ideas and what we need to chase down to figure that out, I'd happily follow up on them.
