But instinctively he shifts the sword to follow Sorey's shouted hints, the two swords meeting with a clack as they hit. There's a part of him that wants to stand his ground and strike back, but he can't help the step back he takes, retreating even as he shifts the sword up to block Sorey's next attack.
Can he attack too? Is there an opening? How does he spot an opening? But he can't just stand and defend over and over and over, right? He needs to take a shot of his own!
So after he blocks Sorey's strike from above, he's trying to swing his sword around toward Sorey's left side. It's not quite a wild swing, but it's certainly not a controlled one, easy to deflect for someone with a little bit of experience.
