What's up, users! We've mostly fixed the technical problems we were having earlier (unless Danny missed something again) but you might want to wear green. Also, I'm supposed to make a vague and mysterious informational post here but that sounded boring so I made a video presentation instead!

Cheers!

As of this post all apples, oranges, lemons, and limes have been replaced in-universe as the silly dancing fruits shown above. This means that as with Chocobos all NPCs will insist this is how things have always been and history/movies/etc will back them up.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day characters will find a request from Retrospec to upload a picture of themselves to the network in which they are wearing something green. They will find themselves shocked lightly by their device if they try to use it without complying. Rude?

A non-triggered memory regain can be earned through participation in this post in honor of Lucy's birthday the holiday with proof of a single thread with at least five comments from your character. If you plan to redeem this, please submit it to our regains page with the explanation of "March freebie". This must be submitted before April to be valid! Regardless of whether or not a character earns the freebie, all characters will find a gold coin with the Retrospec logo on one side and a Chocobo on the other. On the outside edge of the coin they will find "Jim, put a meaningful quote here. - Janet" engraved in a beautiful font. The Chocobo will morph into a horse should your character obtain the memory regain from the event; it will stay a Chocobo if your character does not obtain the memory regain.

Please see our OOC information post HERE for some information and reminders - you can direct any questions about this post there!

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

...wait, seriously

[There is a pause of a few moments, then a hurried response.]

holy shit, google search 'still life painting'

[WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, IT'S ON ALL THE RESULTS]

This is advanced dadaism, I'm sure.

[And yet, he cannot rid his mind's eye of the visions of the delicately-painted smiling apples and oranges, almost seeming to move in the images online.]

does have that sort of feeling to it
not used to having it applied to all of the other art movements, though

[HE'S STILL SCROLLING AND THERE'S A PICASSO WITH A SMILING APPLE AND EVERYTHING]
liberal_arts: (never took no shit from no one)

Like, okay. I "get" it if it's something like that. And you're never supposed to ask a magician his tricks.

But this is a step too far and I'd really like someone to answer for this. Show me the artist behind this. I want to "congratulate" them.

I'd have to agree, but there's also the thing about how this surrealist performance art is affecting, what, the entire world?

I'd probably give you a hand with the "congratulations," though I'd have a few pointed questions for them as well.

[A few choice ones, like, how the actual fuck?]
liberal_arts: (grip and breakdown)

I'm not convinced this isn't some elaborate ruse.

[personal profile] counteracts 2017-03-23 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
as in, a trick?

that'd be great, but I've got some physical evidence to the contrary dancing in a bowl in my kitchen

[He'd checked as soon as he'd seen the video.]
liberal_arts: (thought you'd leave me for dead)

In the world of logic, Occam's Razor that among all possibilities, we must always select the one that creates the fewest assumptions. Essentially, the simplest solution is often the most true.

Which is simpler, actual altered reality, or a large scale prank?
counteracts: (i won't be giving up again)

[personal profile] counteracts 2017-03-24 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
[he's seen fruit smiling and dancing in his kitchen, don't bring logic into this]

considering all of the other weird shit people have been talking about on this app lately?
I'd actually go with the former

[He'd talked about it with a few other people, actually. But it made sense to him. It actually did seem more believable and more simple that one thing—whatever universal fabric made up their universe—was changed, rather than the innumerable factors that would go into a hoax like this.

That's just his opinion, though.]

Perhaps. But I'm not quite willing to accept that, just yet.

[personal profile] counteracts 2017-03-24 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
understandable
hell, it might make you one of the saner ones.

let's just say I'll be really happy to concede to you if it ends up just being a prank
liberal_arts: (the fate broke down)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-03-25 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
And if it isn't, well.

I guess confusion will be my epitaph.
counteracts: (hope i'm alive when the story gets old)

[personal profile] counteracts 2017-03-25 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
aw, come on, dude

there're plenty of other types of fruit in the produce aisle

[that's probably not exactly the reason why but]
liberal_arts: (it's nothing like that sweet old song)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-03-26 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I was mostly just quoting King Crimson lyrics to make myself feel better about being so damned lost.
counteracts: (gives me hope that i'll be)

[personal profile] counteracts 2017-03-27 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
oh. well, shit, that's far more cultured than my line of thought

I guess I could say "it could be worse" but I don't want them to take that as a challenge
liberal_arts: (a motherfuckin selfi-ologist)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-03-27 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wait.

You teach literature, but you're not familiar with King Crimson?

Oh no, I need to sit you down and listen to "In the Court of the Crimson King" from start to finish. You'll love it, I promise.

[personal profile] counteracts 2017-03-27 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
teach?
nah, I just like it. I'm still taking classes myself

but, hell, I'm always open for recommendations, so if you say so, I'll check it out
liberal_arts: (clever sleazoid)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-03-27 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My mistake! Either way, you simply must. On vinyl, if you can.
counteracts: (i ain't at home)

[personal profile] counteracts 2017-03-27 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
it's fine. if anything, I'm flattered

[He's been mistaken for a teacher exactly twice already at the university. It seems to be a common assumption when someone nearly six and a half feet tall and decently-dressed walks into the classroom a little later than normal.]

I might be able to swing that. pretty sure my folks have a player lying around somewhere
so I'll give it a look and let you know what I think
