i take back everything i said about the weird-ass changes in appearance people talked about being bullshit there i said it now i need some hair dye recs asking for a friend

It absolutely matters! The best hair dye to use for a first-timer is one that's less than two shades away from your natural color - it comes out looking natural more easily. If you're going from a dark color to a lighter one, you'll need to bleach your hair first. Also, literally no dye is going to come out exactly the same as it looks on the box, I'm warning you now.

At least that's one thing you've got going for you. What colors were you thinking about dying it? Since your hair is really light, you probably don't want something super-dark, and since you're new to this you don't want to start with super-flashy like neon green or colors like that.

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. It wasn't for me either, but at least I tried it out once.

Blond's a good choice. Plenty of people dye their hair blond anyway, so even if someone finds out that you're dyeing it they probably won't assume 'supernatural hair color change'.

It's probably better to dye it. Like, say, if asshat roommate realizes you don't have any hair dye in Supernatural Color. Don't risk it.

Go with blond. Buy some bleach in case a really smart person who knew what your hair was already realizes you should have some, but you don't have to use it if your hair's super-light. Just pay for the security of knowing that no one can call you out on that.
