 I'll grant that we don't know anything about whatever group of people would be hypothetically running the simulation.
But we still have no evidence that magic exists, do we?
This world could be the dream of a butterfly, for all we know, but I don't think it's likely.
Technology advancing seems more probable than supernatural forces to me.
