And how does that help in this present predicament?

It makes it easier to differentiate between stuff we can do and stuff we can influence and stuff we have no control over.
We can offer to help that person that was calling out for water bottles, or we can try to slow down the monster attacks in the streets. We don't have the ability to magically switch spots with those stuck in dungeons, even if they are allowed a kind of break from said dungeons. They are locked into the quest and won't be able to get free unless it's over. It's just how that kind of mode works.
