yo. looks like there's still some residual effects coming up, but they should be pretty harmless since the kid was in charge of redistribution. she says it should be "cool". just don't do some damn idiot thing about them and you should be fine.

this is absolutely not in my job description but the intern's busy and half of r&d is still banned and hr is on honeymoon. so you'll just have to deal with the lack of fancy bullshit.

Yeah. Long story short, a good chunk of the people here and about 90% of their workers got lost in time and space, so they had to get over themselves and ask who was left for help. The teams were for easier organization, I think? There were Brandywine, Cognac, Absinthe... Could be that they sorted the teams based on skills too, like ours had a lot of people who could fight and we ended up having to fight a lot. The ones who couldn't were good at riddles and we had a living first aid kit as well.

that would make sense. needing our help if they already lost most of their team and then splitting the city into teams.
which one were you on then? besides the fighting team, i already got that.
that would mean they've been watching everyone for a while, wouldn't it?

Absinthe. We were working in a hidden building in the middle of the woods, it was pretty Indiana Jones-y. I think our main part was to get the original founders of this city to help and unlock some weapons or relics that were made to smack the unreality right back where it belongs. They sure are. Be glad you missed the time they spammed everybody with creepy stalker photos.

how can a building be in the middle of the woods and still hidden? that means it has to still be there, right? can we go find it?
that would make sense though. in a lot of sci-fi or fantasy stories you always need special weapons to fight the forces of evil.
i can safely say i am grateful i have zero stalkers and zero stalker photos of me. i think it would be weird to be watched all the time.

Because it's hidden? They didn't put it in the middle of a clearing and shone some pointers on it if you know what I mean. Besides that... Yes and yes, probably. I didn't feel like trying it out but you probably can if you want. I can give you the coordinates. I don't know what to say to the idea of getting to live the live-version of a sci-fi trope. People keep already yelling about x and y being heroes, it's a disaster waiting to happen. I think literally everybody who's on this network tried and failed. The weirdest part was that the angles some of those pics were taken from were impossible to y'know, actually make pictures from. The photographer would have to see and move through walls.

i guess that is fair. if you wouldn't mind i would like that. i don't have any other plans until classes start and the woods aren't too far from campus. so why not?

how do you know it's going to be a disaster? maybe heroes are what people need right now since everything is apparently going tits up.

especially when you say things like that and the whole creep factor goes up by double. or quadruple. i would say "maybe they will get bored" but if they keep bringing more people into this network i sincerely doubt it. even if we don't know what they are looking for.

Because heroes are simplifying things. Heroes make things black and white, and not everybody of us is going to end up on the nice side of the divide. And then what? Are you gonna be a criminal too if you refuse to rat out your friend for doing something stupid while drunk?

that is a pretty heavy question but are you asking just to ask or are you experiencing that kind of problem right now...

It's no issue for me since I know where I stand with the law, but it's bound to become one for others of they keep up obsessing over stupid shit like that. My friends are big into heroes and one is even convinced that we went to a hero school. It's bound to go wrong.

while i admire your stalwart skepticism over the whole thing, why are you not convinced? or, i guess, why ARE they convinced?

It's all in the memories. Theirs point to hero school. Mine points to getting killed by a hero. If I went to school with them than there's a serious fault in the hero school theory.

Nah, nothing B-movie-like like that. I just asked because you sounded like you hadn't experienced it yourself yet. It's hard to imagine or understand while your cherry's still intact.

instinct says to say "i will let you know when my cherry's popped" but that is also weird so pretend that is not a thing and the sentiment is there.
but ok. you might have a point and if i remember anything drastic i guess it will really change my opinion.

Randomly, although at least once each month seems to be a thing. It's usually places or situations that trigger them, so you can be lucky and just miss all the action or you can walk into a room and get hit with six within an hour. People call them "memories" but if you ask me it's more like... Imagine you got amnesia and successfully build up a new life from scratch because those fuckers seemed like they'd never come back. Then, one day, you brush your teeth and suddenly remember that you like mangos more than grapes. It's like that, so doing things conscious can really work against you in the end. Not that I'm telling you to just accept it or anything. Shit's fucked up no matter how you look at it.

first of all, mangos ARE better than grapes. but second of all, that makes a scary amount of sense and i get it. that would explain why you cannot avoid them.
that's a good way to put it though. no one else i've talked to has compared it to real amnesia since if these are memories or whatever that is exactly what it is like.

i'll decide later based on what i remember. thanks for the honesty, at least.

What kind of grapes do you know? Definitely not the right ones! People compare and try to deal with those memories in all sorts of ways, I just wanted to warn ya that some are more prone to leave you hurting than others. What you want to do in the end is up to you, so no problem or whatever. Take care.
