Hitori Togusa 11/9 near Recolle Police Department

For those of you who haven't met me, this is Officer Hitori Togusa, with the Recolle Police. I'm posting today to ask for help in organizing a Recolle Neighborhood Watch. Or, more accurately, a Retrospec Neighborhood Watch. Last month, I saw a lot of people making a lot of effort to help each other out. People trying to keep each other safe, and even the people who couldn't tell that anything strange was going on. It was inspiring. And there were also a lot of questions about what more people can do to help. If there's anything that August and now October have made painfully clear, it's that the RPD can't be in all places at once. But Retrospec can. Credit Oppa Ichirou Matsuoka for the idea. But what we need would be a few civilian volunteers to organize. This would be entirely civilian-run and organized, we're just here to help. You're going to need more than one person running this. The best candidates would be people who already know a lot of people on the app, and who know what they are capable of. Somebody who can point out, "No, that pet dragon is supposed to be there, but the giant spiders might be a problem." As I said, the RPD is going to stay out of the handling of it. I've definitely got some recommendations, but people are free to take or leave them. But any of us Officers will help coordinate and train the organizers. Pretty sure Oppa Frederick Baudin was enthusiastic about the idea. Questions, comments, any volunteers already? Let's talk.

That sounds like a good idea, but is there a kind of qualification you are looking for?

Preferably don't have a criminal record. Be willing to sit through a training session where a few of us babble at you. Like I said, know a lot of people on the Network well so you know what is dangerous-weird versus supposed to be here-weird.

My personal recommendation is to have people who are willing to look out for the safety of the non-Retrospec users, too. And, to let people under 18 help out. Because it turns out some of the most powerful people on the app are what I'd personally consider too young to have to fight.

Other reason I'm trying to keep myself out of the judgement call on this one.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm hoping that you will have a good turn out, or at least a good group to work from with this.

It's up to whoever picks it up. I think everybody sees the need for it, so let's make it formalized, you know?

I'm noticing this isn't an offer to put the 'rich jerk hacker' in charge, though?

Considering how things have gone? Oh, definitely we need this kind of emergency setup.

No. I'm not sure what I'm gaining back, but I don't think running a rescue team would be easy for me. I can keep them well-supplied and even give them something like good used computers or phones or whatever for the group.

Fair enough. Wouldn't want to pressure you into something that you aren't ready for. But, whoever does end up heading this up might contact you anyway.

I don't mind it if they did. Just like I said, I'm not sure if I would have the skill set or time to handle it.
