I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you spent the day with people you care about.

Nowadays, however, we can't speak about Thanksgiving without also talking about what comes afterwards: Black Friday. If you intend to to take advantage of the excellent savings tomorrow, please be mindful of the other shoppers. While it may be nice to buy a 72 inch T.V. at 75% off, it is definitely not nice to shove another shopper out of the way to ensure that you get yours.

Also please don't fight other shoppers, as both you and the person you are fighting will get arrested.

Shop safe and smart tomorrow, Recolle.

The sales usually aren't even that good anymore. I don't know why anyone bothers getting up at 4 am and standing in line for an hour to get 30% off a vacuum when you can find the same deal online.

Far be it for me to decide for someone else if the sales aren't worth it anymore. But perhaps for them, it's some sort of thrill of the hunt for the best deal.

I agree though. Cyber Monday is the better day to shop.

I suppose that is true. But I would argue that hunting stopped being thrilling once it was no longer necessary for survival.

No, I believe I caught it. You were comparing bad sales to a bad catch when hunting, correct?

Is it really that common for people to get into brawls over shopping sales? That seems like such a ridiculous thing to do...

It is ridiculous indeed. I believe as of last year, there have been over 100 injuries and several deaths from Black Friday shopping over the past ten years.

I was planning on staying home anyway, but now I will be certain not to go out unless absolutely necessary.

I apologize if I needlessly worried you, but if you avoid the early morning door buster sales and malls, you should be perfectly safe.

Oh, I wasn't planning to go shopping anyway. I'm more astounded that people would sink so low over something so meaningless.

At times, yes. Typically during the very early morning doorbuster sales, however that does not mean the later afternoon is a walk in the park.

Society, at times, finds it hard to break harmful traditions.

Yeah, I've given up on Black Friday after year I got punched in the eye for a box of tissues...

It was pretty extreme, yeah... but I've heard that even worse things happen like people actually trampling over employees or huge fights breaking out leading to serious injuries.

Is it true they inflate prices in advance of Black Friday and then cut them back down to the normal price so that it looks like you're getting a great deal, but you're really not?

That could be true, however, I do not place much stock in theories without the evidence to back it up.

There's no evidence either way . . . unless we get pricing data from major retailers . . . I always recycle those circulars, but maybe they keep records.

Then there's the matter of factoring price margins, whether items are on sale, and perhaps even the price difference between retailers.

That would be quite the challenge to track, I'd say

If normal research turns up anything troubling, you could subpoena some of the major retailers. Or see if any general managers are willing to flip.

Unfortunately, I can only pass along the information to the district attorney's office. It is them who decide to subpoena.

Actually, I know someone at the DA's office now, too. . . .
There's a lot you can say about this app, but we certainly do meet all kinds of different people.
