ok, the number list thing is boring as fuck. moving on. the kids talked about grabbing souls and them being knocked out of alignment last time. i'm allowed to pick one damn thing to clarify here within a bullshit rulebook, so let's clear up this: it's not like anyone is picking and choosing which to grab. one soul looks pretty much like another, you know? i've been waiting a pretty long time to see if any will be from my homeworld.

not like they're trying to grab anyone in particular. but if you were wondering about "why" it's "because you were fucking there". think of it like a band of traveling hoarders. they see remnants of a world in a mess of shards and pick them up before the shards disappear. i was a shard, but i still had my body. i also happened to not be on aht when it met its end.

they don't stay put. pieces and bits of whatever. they travel, and some of them are already here, because you are. so i stick around because maybe eventually someone they pull out of the dark might be someone i knew.

but yeah, no one gives a single fuck about worth. that's the mystical how do you choose me or this other person i remember who deserves it more answer: you happened to be there, and they weren't. or they haven't been yet. you're welcome.

Hi! Just so you know, we've re-stabilized green! Although I see some alerts on my screen so that's not great, something else got knocked out? I have to go figure out what.

But as a tip, unreality functions on a lot of loopholes. Try carrying some words around or thinking outside of the box if you get into a pinch, okay?

As of this post green has been entirely returned to the world and everyone's sense of taste has officially disappeared. You win some, you lose some. Please note that as tiers are reached we may delay them by a week or so per tier in order to allow people to play with the loss effects! While the world regains post may be used for OOC knowledge, please know that nothing is in effect until a mod-announcement goes up (this may be an IC announcement as well, depending.)

I won't freak out! ...OK, I will freak out, but like, in a good way. I mean -- this is every kid's dream! And you haven't laughed at me or said 'psych' yet so I'm like, starting to think this isn't really a prank?

...If you say 'psych' now, I'm gonna cry, just fyi.

People stop thinking things are weird or flat-out don't notice. That is the spooky sci-fi part of it. [But yeah, okay.] As much as I love pranking people? Not a prank this time.

[He'll even slide off of the car this time to stand on the ground.] In comparison I am not even sure it's that impressive? But it's pretty cool. [And with that...up he goes to float a little higher until he's just above Gar's head.] I still think there are zero limits on height, too.

It's flying, man. How can it not be --

[Gar's voice becomes increasingly high pitched as he holds out that last syllable. He waves his hands feebly in the open space underneath John's feet.]

[Yeah he's pretty proud of himself and grinning widely even as he floats a little higher and waves down below.]

Pretty sweet right? [Yeah okay so much for John saying it wasn't impressive.] As tempting as an offer as that is though, I am not sure it's something I can teach. It's sort of just...part of who I am?

Who you are? What, like your parents could fly so you get it, too?

[Gar squints.]

Man. Red hair, short, skinny, and no flying. I've got the worst genes. Are you sure I can't learn?? Maybe like, the next weird thing that's gonna happen in this city is that everyone gets the potential to fly but no one ever tries so no one figures it out.

I can still flap my arms.

[he proceeds to do so]

No it has nothing to do with my genes since I am pretty sure my dad couldn't fly and neither can my Nanna. Probably. [He watches him flap his arms but he doesn't stop him.] Do you remember what I said to you about the memories thing? It is sort of like that.

[Gar fails to lift off into the air.]

...Kind of?

So, like. You just 'remember' how to fly? How does that work? ...Are you sure it's not aliens sneaking into your room in the middle of the night and giving you a lobotomy?

[lobotomy is one of the most advanced vocabulary words gar knows but he uses it as often as possible]

If it was a lobotomy I am pretty sure I wouldn't be going anywhere, much less flying. [But honestly...Gar kind of reminds him of himself at a younger age so he's taking it all in stride.] I remembered it first and then one day I woke up and I could do it again. That's how these things work. People have memories or powers or whatever that just happen without warning. Sometimes you're prepared, sometimes you aren't.

[He listens to this in silence for a few seconds before sighing in a rather longing fashion.]

Man.

That's so cool. ...I wish something like that would happen to me. I bet I'm just going to remember like, coloring in kindergarten or something dumb.

Whaddaya do with it? You should totally fight crime or something.

I was just as normal before I started remembering stuff, dude. You never know. And maybe coloring has some huge significance we don't know about. [He makes a face.] I don't know about that. I know what I used to do before I came here but it was not exactly fighting crime. You think this place needs superheroes?

According to TV, everyplace needs superheroes, and TV never lies to me.

[duh]

Even if there's no crime. Cities need like, mascots or something, right, you can be a mascot and get the key to the city. Anyway, my superpower'll be coloring within the lines even when there's an earthquake going on. That'll get 'em to quake in their boots.

Right, how could I forget? [Duh, indeed.] I think your power's going to be more important than mine. I'm just flying around like an overgrown balloon, but you and artistic talent? That is the sign of somebody dangerous.

[...it's still funny. Alas.] If you had to pick powers though what would you want besides flight?

[Gar responds without hesitation.]

Super-strength!

...Yeah, I know that sounds pretty boring and standard - but think of all the stuff you could do! Like, you could punch out the bad guys, save people from car wrecks and earthquakes and stuff -- you wouldn't have to deal with anyone pushing you around.

And it'd look great for the chicks.

...Flying's still pretty up there, though.

I don't think there's anything wrong with super-strength even if it's kind of standard in terms of powers. [Says he who constantly wielded giant hammers as his main weapon in his memories.] It's versatile, that's the important thing. Kind of like flying? Think about what you could do with strength and flight. You could pick up and travel with a lot of things.

[...there's a chuckle though.] But glad to see you have your priorities in order. [Alright, alright...he'll touch down to the ground again.]

Hey, maybe you'll get that, too.

[Gar just... kind of swipes his hand over John's head (he gets on his tiptoes) in case there were still any strings involved somehow. There are not.]

...I seriously can't believe this is happening. I mean... I dunno if I'm psyched about whatever weird stuff's going on with the city, but. This memory stuff...

...Do ya think I'll get something cool?

[He seems to be... unusually earnest.]

[There's a slightly nervous laugh since yeah, kind of already have it.]

Maybe. It's hard to say what people will get if they don't remember yet. [It's fine, he knows it looks weird.] I think...it really depends on how you look at it. Some of the stuff I've been getting back is really exciting but some of it is just a little weird. What would you consider cool? Besides flying and superstrength? What if it was something almost...lowkey?

[He turns a bit red -- then his eyes flicker away and he laughs. The seriousness in his tone vanishes.]

...Yeah, I guess that's a dumb question.

Anything's cool! Lowkey is fine. Maybe I'll get the power to know what the right question is on multiple choice tests. That'd probably be even more useful than flight, huh?

I dunno.

What? Ah, jeez. No dude, it's not a dumb question. It's not like any of us were prepared for any of this stuff and I've asked a lot of stupid questions, too. If you end up with anything you can make it work and use it to help. The thing is...everybody has to work together here.

A friend of mine got a power back that I think she's sometimes afraid to use. But it can still be a good thing if she uses it for good. Whether you get flight or super-strength or something kind of goofy like growing your nails super-fast, it'll be an advantage once you think about it.

All of us started out as normal. You'll probably be fine if you end up with anything.

Oh -- I wasn't thinking about...

[He cuts himself off, realizing that he's about to sound super selfish.]

Yeah, that's fair. Wait, so -- what are we supposed to do about all of this? Are there like, people we're supposed to be fighting with these new memories and powers and stuff...? Do we just kind of sit around and wait for stuff to happen to us?

There needs to be an instruction booklet that comes with this thing...

[He shakes his phone.]

[Let him believe everyone wants to be helpful, sorry about him, Gar.]

Yeah, a few people are thinking we might need a newbie guide or something. It's not always people we're fighting, but monsters have been known to show up in the city and outside of the city, too. Dragons and demons and stuff like that. Sometimes people, too. [October was a mess.] I think there's like a fight club run by somebody on the network that helps people train? It helps to be prepared since we never really get a huge warning as to what's going to show up.

Dragons and demons and stuff?

[He could exclaim for the a hundredth time that this was unbelievable, but at this point, John could tell him that the town was actually made of butterscotch pudding and he was a pudding golem and he'd have to believe it.]

Huh.

I'm down for that. Dragons are great. I like dragons. What happens to the monsters after?

Uh huh. The dragon was actually a guy? It was a weird situation all around. [He twirls a hand in a circular motion in the air.] There was this huge fog that took over the town every night for a solid month. It's when all of the monsters would come out. But once the fog disappeared the monsters took off, too.

I'm not sure they're permanently gone but they're gone for now. The other monsters from before were sucked through portals. [...he laughs almost in disbelief.] You could learn all kinds of stories from people on the app and they all sound pretty ridiculous. But it's all true.

...OK, I have a new theory.

[Gar holds up a finger.]

It's drugs.

They're pipin' in drugs into our water and this is a government conspiracy to see how far they can mess with us before we get permanently screwed up. Everything you've ever seen is fake.

Joke's on them, I only drink coke.

[A raise of an eyebrow.]

You have definitely outsmarted them. But you still shower don't you? Drug vapors are still drugs. [Stop this.]

Oh.

[A pause.]

OK, new plan! I'm not gonna show --

[nnoooooooOOOOOOOOO the universe itself rears back in disgust at the thought of a teenaged boy refusing to shower and a sharp gust of wind results in the light crackle of a tree branch that cuts Gar off

He blinks and seems to realize how cold and dark it is for the first time, having been mesmerized by the Flying Man.]

Oh -- geez, I think my parents are gonna notice I'm gone. I've gotta get back...
