help

my eyes are glowing and i can see through walls

i don't even know if i'm posting this right because I CAN SEE THROUGH THE COMPUTER and looking at parts and boxes and circuits on a card thingy is cool i guess but i can see through the monitor too so i can't see where i'm typing!!

i think retrospec gave me x-ray vision which is cooler than turning into a puddle or any of those other weird powers i was worried about BUT HELP

what do i do??????????

Uh... No! Okay, no. Closing eyes works. I still don't know how to turn it off.

No I figured, it's just good to know you have a way to not be sick for a little!

Can you feel anything going on in the back of your eyes?

[breathes] Okay. Okay. Uh... yeah, sort of. Like something's switched on and humming. But not like a robot. I think it'd feel different if I were a robot?

Pretty much all the nerves and things that connect elsewhere are in the back of the eye. If you can feel something there, does it hurt? Or do you think it's a new muscle, maybe?

[ That would be weird but... then so are glowy eyes? She can't imagine a species that would want to have on see through everything eyes on all the time, if for no other reason it would be hard to get around and/or spew radiation everywhere. So ... it might be an on-off thing? Like when her eyes go more cat-like, even if she's not learned to control that well. ]

... Oh, and keep up the breathing. It'll be good to keep calm, don't worry, we'll help you.

Muscle or nerve cluster or something, I can't know. Just breathe in and breathe out, and see if you can pinpoint what feels different. You said it seems like it's humming, right?

[She takes a moment, closing her eyes and breathing slowly.]

Yeah. Kind of like... It started when I was trying to study for chem. I was so focused, my brain was going to fry.

[ Focus... Focus, okay, that makes sense. ]

Keep trying to relax, see if the humming dies down. Let's talk about something low-stress for you for a while... feel free to babble.

Okay. Okay, uh... I guess most stuff is pretty stressful. But the holiday volunteering is fun! Mostly. It was pretty cold painting that mural, and I had to run over to a shop a ways down to check on their window display and make sure I was painting the decorations right. But it's still mostly fun. And also I guess I'm glad that I got X-ray vision and not something really terrible? Like, I don't know, having to drink ink like my neighbour. Sorry, Mr. Tsushima.

You're right, drinking ink sounds disgusting.

[ She says with a dark little chuckle. ] And you're right, this sort of vision could be pretty cool once you get a knack for it.

You mean like looking in presents to see what's in them?

Or through walls, or maybe even you could use that to get better at Biology faster!

You mean like not actually having to dissect the animals?

Mmmhm. You can see how it lays out naturally, right?

I guess so. It still sounds really gross, but yeah. Maybe this'll be okay! When I figure out how to turn it on and off.

Of course! After all, when my eyes changed, I've found a lot of ways its been helpful.

[ and she hopes hers doesn't come with a drawback as severe as he light sensitivity. ]

What happened to yours? Can you see through walls, too?

That actually sounds really cool! At least you'd never get lost at night.

It definitely can be! It's pretty amazing looking out at night.

Try opening your eyes a little, is it still X-ray? Or can you still feel the humming?

[Kara slowly opens her eyes. They're no longer glowing blue. She visibly sighs with relief, slumping.]

That was close. Thanks. At least now I don't have to worry about seeing through everything.

Might be good to try to practice with it though, so you can work out how to turn it on and off.

Yeah, maybe you're right. Right now, I just want to rest.
