I wanted this book to be more accessible than hard science fiction would be. Maybe this just isn't your type of novel.

I don't see what applicable knowledge anyone is supposed to glean out of any science fiction. It's all just anthro-centric aggrandizement... I'd literally rather read about particle physics.
