retrospec | Attached: Guide to Retrospec and Related Issues

Hello everyone. If you know or don't know me my name is Elda Marker (as you can see from the username) and I've been on this app since May. It's been increasingly frustrating to me to have to disseminate large amounts of information to people who weren't here for August or just explaining the basics of the basics to new people who are added to the app every other month.

And so I've taken upon myself to make a guide for Retrospec and the related information that we've amassed.

Obviously though, I don't know everything. If you have information that I don't, if some of the information is confusing to you, or if some of my information is incorrect, please feel free to step forward with that information. For the time being I'm going to keep editing it personally just so that the information remains controlled in one spot (so as to not make conflicting narratives) but I highly recommend that you download this guide so that if I am removed from the app you can continue to edit it after I don't remember making it.

I hope that this guide will be helpful for those of you who are currently confused or for better informing new people added to the app in future. Obviously, this can't be just a link and forget type thing, as there is a *lot* of information, but the hope would be it could a resource.

It's true. Honestly, other than that sense of responsibility I'm not sure I see a point in it.

I was wondering if things are really breaking because of a reality flux or intuitionally by the programmers. This brings that further under suspicion.

Honestly, I do lean more towards one or two theories right now:
1) it's not intentional and things break and they prioritize what needs to be fixed
2) It is intentional, but it's because they only know how to mitigate things, not stop them. For example, they broke the color Blue because their other option was erasing the sun or something like that.

Ultimately, we're still opposed to them, but outside of Halloway I've not seen any of them be actively malicious.

Hm, I hadn't considered number two. That would certainly endear people to their cause, if that were the case.

The more I learn, the more I want to be sympathetic. There's just the really obvious fact that it's not earned.

No. The skepticism of their actions is valid and also necessary for basic survival, when dealing with something so much more powerful than yourself.

Particularly when there's a good reason to keep up purposefully ignorant, or at least to control the information.

It's something that we have to keep in mind, unfortunately.

The control is the big oddity, really. Sometimes I'm suspicious what's intended and what isn't... on many levels.

I'm curious if there's a pattern to the types of "errors" that happen.

That's my next step I think, analyzing what they said in old announcement posts when I find them and seeing what caused the more limited world changes. I also think I neglected some as there are isolated ones which sometimes pop up around when people are temporarily added to the app.

If you'd like another set of eyes for that, I'd be interested.

If you can help me do the legwork for the world changes, that would be fantastic. I'm hoping to catalogue all of Retrospec's actions going back to the beginning of all this, both for lasting and temporary changes. Right now I've gone mostly of memory and testimony, because deep diving that far back on the network is really tedious.

I've been spending a lot of time analyzing old posts anyway, so it makes more sense to combine my efforts, especially with someone more knowledgeable than I am at the moment.

Okay! Then your homework will be as follows:

- Get more precise dates for when those lasting changes kicked off and when they were fixed
- Note if I missed any lasting changes of note (I'm sure I did)
- Note if I missed some temporary changes (I'm sure I did)
- Get some of the older ones recorded
- Anything else you think is worth noting.

Right now that historical record's without a doubt the weakest part, after all.

Do that and get back to me with it? We can compare other notes in future, but I think because of this guide most of what I learn will be public record anyway.
