i have a question

is "you look like you go to hot topic" considered a compliment or an insult?

i've had this said to me before a few times but i woke up today with my eye color changed and now even more people are telling me this

i do not know hot topic's reputation enough to know if i want to be associated with it. please help

It's an insult 99% of the time unless you are currently inside a Hot Topic.

why is it an insult? what is bad about that store

It's associated with a subculture - goths - that is usually considered 'weird' in mainstream opinion. Most people who aren't goths couldn't name any other store or brand that caters to them, so they default to Hot Topic.

Furthermore, Hot Topic has relatively inexpensive products and is popular with teenagers, so the association it gets is specifically with teenagers trying to seem cool by being a part of that culture.

They're visibly different from 'normal' people in the way they dress and some of their interests, and a lot of people are stupid when it comes to people who are different than them. That's about it.

That's the dream. You've got to make sure you aren't too big of a cat or there won't be a window big enough for you to lie in the sun under it.

Maybe you can be a magical cat that can eat chocolate? I remembered a cat that talks, a cat that eats chocolate isn't too much of a stretch.
