01 - Who's Who

So uh, I had this really scary memory come back to me, and I need help identifying either of these two...individuals. I drew them from memory so they might not be exactly like this...



The guy on the left is called Philemon. I saw him in a place that I can't quite remember but there was a checkerboard floor and Greek columns. His mask looks like it came from a bargain bin theater play. He said the place was a gulf between the conscious and the unconscious. Not sure why that would have a checkerboard floor, but there you go.

It's what he said that's got me confused. Something about the land of Sumaru being a netherworld where rumors are reality and we had to use our power to fight back. He called it Persona? Something like summoning the selves inside of you...angels and demons...breaking the chains of karma...sounded really important if the guy bothered to summon us for it...OH RIGHT! He was a golden butterfly before turning into a man.

...I promise this is a memory and not substance abuse by the way. Even ten cups of Coffee wouldn't give me that kind of freaky vision.

Anyway. I guess the monster on the right would be something from the netherworld? I don't know, that was my first memory before this one. Someone else was with me doing motorcycle noises to it for some reason...I don't think his 'Persona' was doing that...heck I don't even know what a "persona" is supposed to be. And with a bunch of people off somewhere, I figured asking everyone might be better than just bothering my bros...

Your help is greatly appreciated. If you know something about anything I just wrote, or just want to share your thoughts, I'll make it up to you if you can help me.

One of my friends had a Persona in his past life. He's lost network access and forgotten about past lives, so I can't ask him for more details, but from what I remember, a Persona is sort of like a guardian spirit? Something you summon to fight for you.

His dog had one too, in his past life. Not here. Mohammed's Persona controlled fire and his dog's Persona controlled sand.

I don't think I saw a dog there either, but that's that about lost network access? If we loose access to this we loose our memories again?

Exactly. You can regain access later, but a lot of people who lose it just don't get it back, and don't remember anything from their past lives. Or about fruit not being supposed to have faces, etc.

I still can't believe fruit SHOULDN'T have faces, to be honest.

But that would suck...I'm kinda curious to know where these memories are leading me to. Hopefully something else than motorcycle noises.

Yeah! Well at least in the memory, there was another guy doing motorcycle noises to it. I guess...a rival? I think?

maybe in your other life human-shaped bikes made up some portion of the population? i can get behind that.

also, i've heard that Personas are a part of you. you can make them appear and do some cool party tricks, too.

Yeah the Philemon butterfly dude said that...something about the demons and angels you harbor and our different selves? But hey, this does seem to prove that I was a hero of some sort right, if I had one of those things and we were trying to break the chains of karma against us?

...We did a live action strip capturing as much as we can of the original's spirit? I don't know if that sounds dumb but I've always thought it would be pretty hilarious. I mean it could be an april fool's strip, I wouldn't really care.

Okay, there is a lot I can say about this.

Philemon? As in the Saint that was friends with Paul the Apostle? That doesn't look familiar. But I do think that little pumpkin is familiar. And I know what Personas are.

I see a few people have mentioned it. Do you want a full explanation?

Okay. I'll start simple.

Personas tend to take on the form of a mythological or otherwise important figure. A god, a creature, an angel. Jack Frost, dragons, or Amaterasu, maybe even Lucifer or another angel.

And calling them out, summoning them, is a power that some people on the network have.
