Arguably the very definition of patriotism is suffering pain for one's country/origins.
Though the official definition according to dictionary.com is "devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty." which omits any of the historically well-known tendency for patriots to find pain for the love/support/defense/loyalty of one's country.
