Why create fictional lives for us though? Why not allow the reborn souls to determine their own new existence?

Because, while I'm not exactly an expert on pulling souls from ruined worlds, it sounds more like we were fragmented, plucked from the void, and then stuck here.

People without the app have left the city since the app was introduced. I have a friend whose ex girlfriend left town at the beginning of the year. Where would she have gone if that outside world never existed?

How did she leave town if there wasn't an exit? The dome was up until February.

Perhaps she exited just before it went up. I would have to confirm the exact date. But there has been no sign of her in the city so it would seem she really left.

It does now that you mention it. I don't think my friend thought too deeply about it. He was so upset by the breakup it might not have crossed his mind. He hasn't mentioned anything out of place but I don't now if he bothered to keep in any contact with her for even safety.
