OK, I don't normally show the stuff I get from Retrospec on the app unless it is REALLY weird (ex. the owl and the accent). But THIS! THIS IS SO COOL! IT'S A MAGIC FLYING BROOMSTICK! And it's apparently a Nimbus 2001 (no idea if that is a model number or year make) and man it is fast! Can we all just admire the the sleekness of this broom, the foot holds, and I'm pretty sure there is some kind of magical cushion so it doesn't hurt to sit on it!

Ren attaches a picture of what is pretty clearly a sword made out of some manner of red light. It's from the point of view of him holding it in front of him and taking a photo with his phone, with his apartment in the background.

[See, normally Derek would have brought out a picture of his Eagle Owl with a 6ft wing span, but that picture. It looks like something right out of Galaxy Battles! Derek know that Ren is going to expect a gushing response... and well... Derek is def going to give him one.]

whatever it's called, it's mine and it's real. but basically, as far as i can tell.

and in case you're wondering, it can cut through metal and everything else i've tried.

[It's real cool. Cooler than a flying broom, even if a flying broom is sort of cool.]

Does it also cauterize wounds like the aura sabers so? What's it like to use?

as far as i can tell, though i've only used it on monsters that disintegrate after ten seconds of being dead.

it feels powerful, but like it's going to jump out of my hand or explode if i don't keep it under control.

And how do you manage to do that? Keep it under control I mean?

very carefully. other than that it's difficult to explain, but it has to do with the abilities i've gotten. it's something like a sixth sense, but more active.

Is it similar to a type of qi?

[lostapprentice]

maybe. i thought it was sort of a life energy, but i can also feel it in the sword, so i'm not sure.

So you feel like the sword has a mind of it's own? My wand is kind of like that. It is almost as if my wand chose me. That's what it feels like for me.

something like that, and maybe there's something about it that is magic, but i get the feeling there's more to it than that.

i still don't have enough context. at least i know how to use it.

Yeah, it's go you know how to use it. It could be bad if you accidentally cut off your hand.

i would prefer not to lose any limbs, yes.

do you know how to use that broom, or have you just been guessing at it?

Actually I do. When I got the broom I just seemed to naturally know how to use it.

that's certainly lucky, though a shame. it would have been funny to see someone flying haphazardly through the air on a broom.

No thank you. I'd rather not break my neck.

i'm sure you would have found someone willing to catch you. and aside from that, didn't you say you had a magic wand?

Yes, I receive a magic wand, you are correct.

i'm sure you could have figured out something with that. it's magic, after all.

What kind of magic do you think I have? I can't just make up spells. There are specific spells for specific purposes and none of the ones I know could have helped me if I was plummeting to the ground.

that sounds annoying. what's the point of having magic if you can't do what you want with it?

You do realize I don't remember everything my other self can do right? He very well may have a spell in his repertoire to hand such a situation. I just don't know it YET.

alright, so what do you remember?

Honestly? Just some basic spells. Like things he would practice in his classes during his first couple years at school. Like, a levitation charm or a spell to make a light at the end of his wand. I had can create fire. Most of the spells are random.

those are all convenient enough, i suppose. not world-altering, but useful.

i've met a number of people with the ability to create fire. i wonder what sort of commonalities there are in the powers we've been getting.
