holy fuck did they change the bus routes?
ive been on this bus for 3 hours and were nowhere near school!!
so i guess im gonna be late for all my classes. shit.
fuck you transit system

[AND THEN, TWO MINUTES LATER, AN ADDITION]

yeah ok so were driving up into some mountains now so
theres a chance i got on the wrong bus.

[And this is why he should never ever leave Timcanpy at home.

If there's anyone else riding the bus to Magatus this fine weekday morning? There's a hot topicy teenage boy with a backpack looking very much like he hadn't packed for a weekend in the mountains WHOOPS.]

[He snorts]

How about we just go for a walk? Don't need a destination.

[Noah you already got lost once today don't drag Minako down with you]

Sure! [And she'll just start strolling down the street.] So! A new job. Or maybe I should say a new career? Since it seems like you want something fulfilling. [A little glance at him.] Was there every any job when you were little that you wanted to do, just for fun?

[BOSUMA HERE WE COME]

A job that I wanted to do just for fun? [ He scrunches up his nose as he thinks ] You mean besides taste-tester, right?

[She tries (and fails) to hide a grin behind her hand.]

Yes. Though I could very easily see you being a taste-tester too.

I'd only be the fucking best.

[Yeah!! But okay, he guesses he needs to actually think about it. ]

....I dunno. When I was a kid, I was usually busy with helping out my dad to think about that kinda stuff.

Hmm...then, let me ask a slightly different question. What kind of career do you really admire?

[A little gesture at herself.]

Growing up, I saw my parents doing volunteer work in the community. For them, it was just for fun, but I thought it was wonderful-- so much so that I want to do it after I graduate. I also admired police officers for how they helped people in a more active sense, and I even toyed with the idea of opening my own restaurant a long time ago, because the time, care, and effort chefs put into their food was something I wanted to emulate in my own life.

Noah listens to Minako, and each thing she explains. Minako is so thoughtful, and always considering others. It's no wonder she had so many things going on in her life, she was so engaged with life. From volunteers to police to chefs- she had so many interests, so many things she drew from the world.

Did Noah have that? Not...really. He knew about surviving. About getting through day to day with his skin attached. Most of the time, he felt he was pretty detached from the world. He had emotions, but he didn't want to get involved in most things going on. It was easier that way.

Still...]

I guess...

[He puts his hands in his pockets, looking out at the area ahead of him, thinking about the types of people he admires. The news stories that speak to him.]

People who risk everything to just save lives. Like firemen, or the White Helmets in Syria. [He kicks a pebble along his path on the sidewalk] No ulterior motives, no selfish ambition. They just...wanna save people. That's it.

[He sighs]

Yeah I know, it's a cliche answer.

Cliche or not, it's your answer, so it's nothing to be ashamed of. [She tilts her head up to look at the sky, humming between her lips then glancing back to Noah.] And besides, the world needs more of those kinds of people anyways. Nobody likes to think about the worst case scenario. People who do, people who take it upon themselves to operate in crisis situations-- they're the ones who keep our every day lives comfortable and safe. They're so, so important and yet so underrated.

Yeah...I guess so...

[he rubs the back of his neck]

Not that I even know how to do something like that. It's the total opposite of what I was taught.

[She laughs softly.]

Luckily there's plenty of time to learn, and plenty of people who can teach you. In fact...my roommate Freya is a firefighter. She's kind of like you-- [A playful nudge to his arm.] Lots of brawn, lots of heart. I think you two might get along well. If you want to talk with her, I could arrange it...?

[he blinks in surprise]

Your roommate's a firefighter? [Wow]

Uh, sure I guess. If she's fine with it.

Okay! I'll see what I can do, then. In the meantime, if there's anything else you can think of, let me know? I can try and find another friend to talk to you. [She gives him a tiny smile.] Maybe someone can spark the inspiration you're looking for.

Okay. [He gives a little nod. Yeah okay, meet a firefighter- that could be cool. They were decent folk] Thanks Minako.
