Shall I tell an odd story?

On my way home after closing the restaurant, I felt like someone was following me. Yet looking behind, there was no one save for the usual late night walkers. But no one following me specifically. Still, I couldn't quite ignore it. It took me awhile to get home because I decided to take a different route than usual.

Arriving home, as soon as I closed the door, there was a knock. Impossible. There was no one behind me coming up the hallway to my apartment. There wasn't anyone. But again, there was a knock. Curious, but I'm not so curious as to open the door. The knocking, however, grew angry and loud. I thought I would soon get calls from my neighbors or at least someone complaining.

But no one did.

The frantic, insistent knocking continued. I can't say I was afraid about it. Whatever was on the other side couldn't enter, so I let it enjoy itself beating on the door. Eventually, it did stop and I went to sleep, deciding it was one more odd thing this app had to bring.

Troubling, I suppose, when I woke up to find the door to my apartment was wide open with the sound of something breathing quietly just out of sight.

All the same, today is Easter Sunday and I won't be around for the early morning. I hope everyone takes care of themselves better than what I did, haha.

Why didn't you let it in? Might've been an emergency.

It doesn't make for a compelling story if you let it in right away.
But rest assured, if it was something that really happened, I would have let it in after the first knock.

The story could still be compelling with the guest invited in from the start. Confrontation vs a mystery.

I guess I like knowing things and figuring things out.
Being left to wonder is endless and exhausting.

The world and humanity is far too interesting than to leave it a mystery, is that not right?

Yeah. Way more complicated too. You could figure out so much and there's still so many mysteries left. Best of both worlds.

Hmm... People, I think. People are what shape the world. What about you?

People, too.
Not so much because they shape the world, but because I like humanity and society a lot.
The manner which I show it may be occasionally odd.
But I do have a fondness for people which makes me want to know them better.

Odd, huh? If there's fondness behind it, I'm sure people will understand.

That's very understanding of you.

A better word might be "hopeful." As in, it's what I want to believe in.

You want to believe people will understand because there is fondness.
But you're aware that it most likely will not happen.
Simply because there is someone fond of something does not mean the person will be understood at all. Right?

It did not.
That is why I started with saying I would tell an odd story.
I'm not much of a wordsmith, I fear.
There are many that are better than me.
But I tried.
I'm pleased to find that you were spooked.

Uh. Yeah. But that might be my fault, in the end. Like not making it clear when I'm joking or serious or otherwise. I never thought I'd have to explain myself so often to avoid that.
