So hypothetically, if you're an atheist (no judgement on people who aren't! ♥) and then learn your magic is the result of divine intervention, does that change things for you?

I happen to be in Enprise, so they can count as a debate!

Oooooor~! I might wander around and anyone can try to steal some coins [ inserted image of twenty weird coins ] from me if they can find me! I was a priness in another life and I'm the only staff member of the Stone Pegasus Casino left in town, so I count as double rich, maybe? Either way, it might be fun to see how daring people can get!

If this hypothetical god needs to get my attention and can only do so through magical abilities, maybe they should have been a better god to begin with. I didn't ask for any special gifts or powers, I don't own reverence to any divine being trying to bribe me.

Hmmm! So you do acknowledge their existence, but not any reverence owed to them? I guess that would literally make you more of an anti-theist than anything...

Whatever you like to call it. I don't see why the sudden display of divinity would make me change my mind. It's not like they cared earlier... Just came out of the blue and gifted some power.

Which I would definitely use, but for my own gain, not theirs.

But without their intervention, then you wouldn't have the power, right? So it *definitely* means you not only believe in them, but you accept their gifts.

I can accept a gift without accepting the piety that comes with it. A being can exist without it being divine and without getting any sort of worship.

But do you have gratitude for the gift, even without piety?

Depends on what it is.

Oh no! You're the sort of not be grateful for bad gifts?! Your relatives must be sad sometimes . . .

No and no. I don't have any relatives... So that point is moot. Even so, why would I be grateful for something that is bad?

Why? There is no benefit in doing so for either person.

I'm not sure I disagree per se! But especially with those relatives you don't have, for those of us who have them, they remain around no matter what. It's easier to say that we appreciate the gift to say we appreciate that they thought of us.

Then go ahead and lie to yours, that doesn't affect me at all. I'm in no position to do so... Again, it is irrelevant.

That's fair! After all, you don't need to worry about it, and (hypothetically!) it's not as if you could talk to a god in a dead world anyway.

"Debates" usually aren't that productive! Power is what matters for things like this anyway.

Oh no, I don't really care, personally. I know what I believe already and I don't need to justify it.

I'm an atheist, I just don't give a lot of thought to the divine as a general rule! I do have some ideals, but they aren't the sort I'd be putting up for public debate. But if you want to say you won, you're free to!
