Don't worry -- it's a very fun one, and most of the work is on my part, but I think it'd be a good time sink... and you may even learn a little more about yourself in doing so. You may quit at any point of time and gain rewards from it (those are to be decided, mostly depending on how far you get in your story), though seeing it through to a satisfying end would be the most fruitful for your time.

It’s a new job, a new day. You’re off of romance. You’re swearing off it the way someone might cigarettes, ice cream, spending large quantities of money on gacha games – cold turkey. There’s not a single person in this entire world that would suit you, you’re certain, though your friends disagree. They just don’t understand.

The world is green and beautiful, and before you is a town built of pale stone. The sky, dotted by pinkening clouds, is starting to darken as night falls; you have three party members with you, as well as your animal companion. There is one quest left to do before you turn in.

Quest: Nightwalkers

There’s been rumors of beasts roaming the streets of the nearby town, hunting down those who stay out at night. Bring peace to the night.

Twofingers, Therlove Woodsoul, and Greg give their opinions thus:

Twofingers just wants to get to sleep, so either do it or not. Who cares.

Therlove wants to help the town, so she wants to do it now.

Greg thinks they should do it as well, though you have the feeling he just wants to kill things.

Buttons, your loyal companion, seems as if he'll follow whatever you decide.

Um, mm... That's two votes for yes, so I guess we can deal with it. Quickly and efficiently ☆

Can I ask some really basic questions?
Like, what are our strengths (classes? jobs? I don't really do fantasy), what kind of creature is Buttons, and, mmm...

Is there a picture of the Nightwalker thing? So we have a reference for what we're looking for.

Buttons is a bear, though one on the smaller side. A halfling could easily ride him.

Twofingers is a Dwarven Rogue who specializes in energy efficiency. You don't think you've ever seen him do anything the proper way, but he certainly does get the job done.

Thorlove Woodsoul is an Elven Cleric, dedicated to her passion of helping others. She's always the first one the scene.

Greg is a normal human warrior. It seems he vents his frustrations on others, usually killing them. He takes glee in this.

You are a halfling mage, specializing in the arcane arts. Your favorite time of day is when the sunsets, so it's really sad you can't enjoy it now.

There isn't a picture of the Nightwalker thing, but you can probably ask the town people for information about it.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand... Um...
Let's ask around for more information about these Nightwalkers, the towns around here, and things like that then.

Also, I'd like to use Charm Person to make Twofingers more receptive to the idea, since he seems not as on-board as everyone else...?
I mean, he doesn't care... So I think it'd be nice if he did.

Twofingers is receptive to magic due to being a Dwarf and highly unused to it being inflicted on him. You cast Charm Person on him, brushing your fingertips against his shoulder, and when he turns on you it's simply inquisitive over the sharp glare it might've been.

"Somethin' the matter, pal?"

Greg's eyes widen and Thorlove seems surprised, too, but she wisely silences the human before he says something he shouldn't. It's probably better this way.

Twofingers will now die for you.

The Nightwalkers are known by two things: the carnage they leave behind and the noises that occur during it. Some investigation can be done at highly affected areas, if you feel up to the task, and a few of those with missing kin are more than helpful in pointing out where:

The slums.

As for towns nearby, they are mysteriously unaffected by the Nightwalkers... Either they're too far away or it's simply this area's problem to deal with.

Thorlove thinks they should go right to the source, to the slums, and Greg agrees. Twofingers seems to be waiting on your opinion as faithfully as Buttons.

Do you have an idea of what you'd like to do first?

Not really. Mmm... In horror movies, it's bad to split up, so we should travel as a group and look for signs of these Nightwalker creatures...?

A good idea, because as night draws close the shadows grow long, and with them the slums begin to lock their doors to outsiders.

You're in the slums. It's a wide area, but thanks to the townspeople you're able to seek out three known locations of the attacks, as there seems to be no sign of the Nightwalkers just yet. To which do you want to visit?
