Hello, Recolle.
Let's play a game.
Don't worry -- it's a very fun one, and most of the work is on my part, but I think it'd be a good time sink... and you may even learn a little more about yourself in doing so. You may quit at any point of time and gain rewards from it (those are to be decided, mostly depending on how far you get in your story), though seeing it through to a satisfying end would be the most fruitful for your time.
Now.
Please pick a genre and one of the following colors: Red, Blue, Green.
1. Fantasy
2. Dystopian
3. Romance

come and see.

Another rider. This one is on a steed so pale, you feel it's actually translucent; the figure who sits upon it has no gender one way or the other, unlike the other three, and you feel yourself weakening in the knees. Another, another, another -- is four enough, or would there be a fifth? A sixth? You don't know.
They gallop across the skyline as the others had, but unlike their kin... nothing seems different? The world seems a little muted, sure, but maybe someone took care of that screaming woman downstairs finally.
no subject
check downstairs?
no subject
Unlike that poor woman's skull. She died mid-scream, blood dribbling into her gaping mouth, eyes lifeless where they once held fear and, you're pretty sure, delusions of cockroaches from what you could tell.
There's something rather fishy about the disturbing scene.

Going down from there, you avoid her eyes (or close them, if you'd like) and taken in the rest of her. There's scratches and blood from where she tried to "tear out" the insects crawling beneath her skin, and the further down you look...
Oh.
You think you've found what caused that hole in her head, stomach rolling in realization.
It's her fist, fingers crushed in odd angles and her wrist doing no better. There's a ring that looks rather valuable on one of them, while her other hand sports what's clearly a ring from a fiancee.
no subject
anything strange about the room?
no subject
It's a normal room, with three doors: the exit you came from, one ahead you think logically leads to the kitchen, and the last that may either be a bedroom or bathroom... though without opening it, you won't know.
While the woman is laying against the wall, there's a perfectly serviceable sofa near the middle of the room with a small white round... thing curled up on it. From watching you, you can tell its breathing and is most likely a cat; animals weren't counted among God's Kingdom, you guess, but you do know they're immune to the riders.
The TV, an old set with a VCR and battered stereo system, doesn't work when you try and turn it on. It's just decorative now.
There's a few pictures of her and her family on a shelf, surrounded by books. There seems to be no other valuables.
no subject
pocket the ring and check the kitchen. pick up a knife if possible.
no subject
There's plenty of knives to pick up, so you choose one that seems easiest to use and give it a few swipes.
Looking cool, survivor.
The fridge is ajar, but what chill might've been inside has long since left the device; what lingers is the smell of old food, spoiled and no good to anyone anymore. Except perhaps that cat, or any desperate animal on the streets.
Speaking of the cat, though.
There's a soft meow at your foot, and a small body rubs against your leg. Its tail curls around you and it looks hopefully at you with its adorable blue eyes. You think it may be hungry. You are also hungry, but you're fairly certain that the wet cat food sitting on top of the fridge wouldn't taste very good.
no subject
open the can and feed the cat. pet it a couple of times before checking the last door.
no subject
You check the last door. It certainly is a door, you see, and it even comes with a knob! Fancy that.
Would you like to enter?
no subject
yes, open the door.

It's a bedroom, strewn with clothes and in a general state of disaster. The woman most likely lived on her own, judging from the kinds of clothes, but she had a wedding ring..? It's a detail you put to the side as you take in the room.
The bed looks very comfy, if in disarray. The closet door is ajar, and almost every drawer on the vanity is thrown open. There's a cat bed in here too. Some toys as well.
There's also a handgun.

You look for ammunition and find some beneath the bed.
no subject
check the closet again?
no subject
Oh.
Not quite barren.
There's an odd bit of paneling, a slight discoloration you can see from the meager light drawn in from the window. Pressing on it seems to work, and once opened it reveals a... book?
Leather bound with a encircled star on the cover, it's an interesting find. But it doesn't seem very useful for survival, being a book and all.
