Let's play a game.

Don't worry -- it's a very fun one, and most of the work is on my part, but I think it'd be a good time sink... and you may even learn a little more about yourself in doing so. You may quit at any point of time and gain rewards from it (those are to be decided, mostly depending on how far you get in your story), though seeing it through to a satisfying end would be the most fruitful for your time.

You head downstairs, and out onto the streets.

The city is in a grid formation, as most modern areas tend to be these days, and at the moment you're outside the Star Apartment you'd moved into just last month. There isn't anything high class about it, nor is it a place where even B-list stars stay, it was just named after the owner's dead wife. Or something like that.

You know that this street is famous for its variety of restaurants, cuisine from around the world, so there's no lack of food... for now. With some people's appetite seeming never satisfied, though, you aren't sure it'll last; your own stomach groans at the thought, hunger pangs dulled by time. East will bring you to Western-style cuisine, and West will bring you to Eastern-style. It's more or less a sliding scale between the two.

The street north of you is all business buildings, while the one south, or behind you, is more of a transition into tourism. You picked a pretty lousy area to live in, thinking back, but the rent was affordable and you didn't used to be worried about being shanked.

Why is west more eastern style? That doesn’t make any sense. Whatever, I go that way... If there is nothing to my liking there, then I will go south.

The city is famous for being contrarian, you recall, but still think it's very stupid.

The West may be of some interest.

There's places that've been crammed full of people hungry for everything and anything, including one another, and you avoid going anywhere near them for your own self-preservation... or you would, if suddenly those places that had been filled so dangerously weren't so quiet now. Investigating somewhat leads to piles of bodies, still as the grave, and every area with those affected are the same.

There's nothing else of note besides that. They have plenty of valuables that may mean something in this distraught world, and there could be some food behind the walls of corpses, but that would require some manpower.
