005 ★ a few serious questions

[Mio's been left alone with her thoughts for a very long while and she can't help but feel avidly curious about a few things. She needs to confirm them, just to be safe.]

Hey, Retrospec.

I didn't get the chance to ask these questions since I didn't find out until recently, and I'm not exactly sure if I'm correct or not, but there's definitely a few things I want to ask. I need to be absolutely certain.

Can someone on the application change? Not changes as in memories or regaining their past lives, but rather... Can their memories and histories of their lives in Recolle change altogether? Can memories of someone who a person used to be close to be altered into something different?

Also, a follow up question. Has anyone been having weird dreams lately? Of people being in their dreams that usually aren't? I know it was just yesterday for me, but my dreams before that have been rather distinct and difficult to just simply forget, so I want to know if it's just me or not.

And if you're not interested in either of those questions... I already asked for cute things last time, so I'll ask this: tell me something funny you've experienced or seen recently. It can be anything.

Theoretically anything is possible where Retrospec is concerned. But I have a feeling you're bringing this up because you think it's happened.

Unless you count those who are no longer on Retrospec and consequently don't remember any of it, I haven't seen evidence of that, no.

A friend of yours?

[personal profile] dulynoted 2018-07-10 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to hear that. Do they remember you?

[ ...Hm. ]

And this has all happened around the same time?

[personal profile] dulynoted 2018-07-15 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
So around the same time. And things around here do tend to go haywire at the beginning of the month.

You're likely not the only one, but I don't see anyone else speaking up.

I'll try to be cognizant of this in my interactions too.

You may just be the first in a series of uncomfortable reveals.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Not just memories of my time in Recolle either.
Whole life histories.
I was born in a different country last year than I was this year.
Different family, different university, different driver's license, the whole bit.

Then it happened to a friend of mine.
One day he's ex-military working in a car repair place
The next day he's five years younger, has no idea who I am, and has had his own woodworking business for a couple of years.

Did you lose somebody important?
frostythehitman: (no one would ever change this)

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2018-07-09 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
even if someone did change like that
how would any of us even know it
frostythehitman: (i fear is never ending)

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2018-07-09 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ oh shit. he hopes she doesn't mean him--is he supposed to know her? ]

who
what happened
frostythehitman: (controlling)

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2018-07-09 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
what if it's you who isn't remembering things right
frostythehitman: (I HAVE BECOME)

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2018-07-10 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
and how do you know those things weren't altered just like your memories could've been
frostythehitman: (controlling)

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2018-07-11 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
i don't know
for what reason would they tamper with your sister's memories
everything you're saying or asking could get flipped right around and the questions would be just the same
are you really sure you know what the truth actually is?

If we accept that we can have memories of a life not our own (at least, not the one we live here), I think we should also accept that our memories of the life we lived here may also be suspect.

That's not to say that they necessarily are, just that the opportunity does present itself.
So... perhaps? I don't see why not.

[personal profile] truedetective 2018-07-10 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I understood what you were asking.
I would still express the same view.

If we accept that memories are mutable-- that is, we can get "new" ones-- there's no reason I can think of that even our "real" memories can't be overwritten with "new" real memories.

It's not a pleasant thought, but I can't realistically think of any way around it.

To be perfectly blunt, there's nothing that says that.
It could be fabricated from start to finish.

I think the meaning these things have is that which we give it.

As do I.
I've never wanted to learn anything else more desperately.

I think it's in all our best interests to be ready for whatever that truth happens to be.
