[ For the past few days, Retrospec users may have noticed that Zee has been unresponsive. On the 29th, a message from Delta#68422 appears - for once a network connection in video form. The girl on the screen is recognizable to some as Joanne Wiseman: a blonde teenager with blue eyes and curls tied back, in a Retrospec technician's white labcoat. Far from her usual bubbly appearance, she looks upset and stressed out, her eyes red-rimmed. ] Hi... [ She scrubs at her eyes for a second, then tries to smile. ] Um. So! The thing is - the thing is, I can't tell you exactly, but one of you - someone got something back, and it's... [ Joanne pauses. There are voices in the background, and she glances off-screen to her right, lips thinning before she turns back. ] We can't take it back, you know, we reroute items - Maurice does, I mean - but it's not like we're giving things on purpose. I mean, those we are. He takes them back now if you don't want them but it's not like you can take back things you can do, and - and. Someone did something, but I can't say who, or how, 'cause of restrictions. But I can tell you something happened, and - with all those deaths recently. [ She takes another breath, deep and slow. ] And. Our liaison, Zee, he - he wasn't on the same level, you know? Mid-level management. Like - so he didn't have the... [ another pause as she scrubs at her eyes again. ] So - the news, the normal news, it probably said already but you might not have known if it was real but he's. He's dead, and it's the permanent kind, and we can't fix it. I'm so sorry, he already - he'd already, we'd already done it before, and he ran out of - he ran out. My Aunt doesn't want to send anyone else in until - the, the issue. With one of you. Until something's done, but even then... [ A helpless little shrug. ] I never got to clear up the mess last month, the message. I'm sorry, we've been a little - it's been hectic. I'm not sure this won't get messed up before I send, but I think I can route it around - well, anyway. Jim said it would work, he helped me with it, and...that's. That's it for now? We're trying to - this is bad, but we're trying to avoid something else right now, so. I can't - we can't - focus on this. I'm sorry. I'll try to contact you next month as soon as I can - we're trying to avoid a repeat of August. I mean, last August. God. Stay safe, and - [ And with that, the message ends in static. ]
As of this post, Zee is no longer in play until further notice due to player plot and game plot reasons! He may make a reappearance in the later months and player action can change this outcome if characters come up with a solution. Anyone who goes to look for information about this death will find out that Zee has been killed and his body was found staged in front of the Wiffle-Waffle waffle house. What a bad break.
We are now entering the final phase of the summer event; please be on the look-out for September's plotting post with details for the next month! Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Characters IDs will be comprised of the following: The date your character first appeared on Retrospec (so in Zee's case, that was 02/01/18) and the last four digits of your character's IC inbox as found in the HTML (in Zee's case, 8329.), not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. |

[ Kiyoshi edits a few moments later because he realizes that it's a little insensitive to only write that, but he's been slowly starting to take those sort of things a bit more calmly. Death happens, that's just how it is. ]
But, RIP Zee.
What exactly caused it, anyway?
no subject
Oh no, Zee's....?
Are you saying someone on the app killed him?
Why would they do such a thing?

A senseless tragedy. May he rest peacefully.
It seems that even that company has their limits when it comes to bringing back the dead.
This is admittedly a long shot, but does anyone have any idea what sort of item she is referring to?
no subject
"He ran out of" something. Chances? Perhaps that's it.
It might be easier to start with figuring out what item she isn't. That said, any report of his death could also contain some clue.

How coincidental, with the idea he and his brother had for just offing The Collective following just behind this. Goro will absolutely stand silent on the matter as he's loyal to kin (as far as his older brother is concerned, anyway, Dad sucked a dick), but he's having a hard time trying to figure out the emotion he should be feeling right now.]
Well, isn't that depressing news... My sincere condolences to what family Zee-san may have had, as well as to those in his work place; the loss of a charming man like that will be felt for a long time.
Of other importance: Please do take care of yourselves as well as one another. With such a sudden rise in deaths, now more than ever we should be open with one another, to lean on the other's shoulder, and to keep aware of ourselves. I wouldn't like to see another name I knew in the newspaper for anything less than the front page.
[Nevermind that he recognizes the names of those reported in about a certain organization. It's fine. This is all just... pleasantries, the kind of thing anyone'd say after a tragedy, but whatever.]

Why -
[He types something out, deletes it, types out something else, deletes that too. With everything else that's been going on this month...]
I'm so sorry, Zee.
I don't even know where to start.

Zee didn’t deserve that.
no subject
Metaphorically speaking, of course.
There may even be more than one at work, or gaining confidence from things such as this and those on the news and planning to make their own move, and we would never know.

I normally wouldn't ask, but since this is important, would anyone mind giving me an overview of some of the details that haven't been mentioned in text yet? I'm deaf, so I mainly only have the messages in this post to go off of. Joanne is so shaken up that lip reading isn't getting me very far, and I don't want to make too many assumptions with words when the topic is this serious. Sorry for the trouble.

Most points have been brought up in some way -- Zee-san's untimely death, the correlation between something one of us received and the recent string of deaths, etc -- but Joanne-san also mentions that it's a permanent death. There won't be anyone to replace Zee-san until this is solved, and in the meanwhile there is something else apparently going on that they're trying to avoid.
A repeat of last August, which was... hectic, to say the least.
Very dangerous, but rather fun in hindsight.

[Makoto writes something else before he erases it then tries again.]
I can't believe someone would do that to him. I hope Joanne and Zee's family will be okay. Knowing someone from the network did it is scary. I hope they'll be able to figure it out.
I hope everyone else will be able to stay safe.
We should probably look out for each other more too.

I know we're all pissed at retrospec but Zee was the closest to being one of us. Was he just an easy target or something?
Hate the idea it was one of the people on here. It's difficult to rally together when there's a rat in the mix. Bad enough what we deal with month to month. Now we're all going to have to keep paranoia in check?

That's so horrible... poor Zee.
So
It was one of us who did it, and
they used something that they regained from the past.
And I guess it was a guy?
Ugh this is awful
I'm so bad at mysteries. I could never even solve those Encyclopedia Green stories.
Oh ummm
This is Hanatarou by the way
no subject
That's what Joanne said, but that's so vague. There are a lot of guys here with things they've got back from the past. I'm bad at mysteries too though I wondered who did it.
Oh this is Makoto! I didn't know your name is Hanatarou. Do you want me to start calling you that?

This is because of something someone got back from their memories, their other home? An item or ability? But wait. She said deaths. That means it wasn't just Zee-san....
Everyone else is okay, right?
Beta#0111173663
She says this wasn't the first time either. Meaning I guess there's some limit to bringing people back? Morbid but uh. Good to know? I guess? I actually remember hearing something about resurrection back home. But I dunno if this is the same. Still. I guess there's the danger of getting something back you can't control. Or something you misuse for whatever reason.

[Mika can't help but feel like the words are inadequate. After all, he knows how it feels to lose family so he's aware how futile the aftermath feels like. He simply shakes his head and tries to change his subject.]
When you find the one responsible for all of this... What will you do to them?
