The things that we did during the last few months aside, I’m pretty sure that Zee being killed is the same for everyone’s memories. I didn’t get a chance to say this before, but now is better than later. I spoke to him before he went offline and pieced some memories together to make more sense of everything:

— When we shared dreams in July, we fell in between layers and disappeared from Retrospec’s radar, someplace Zee didn’t have access to.
— They’re suspecting this was caused by Clarence Vanderweele (or something allied with him). And if that’s true, it’s what’s been causing all the problems we’ve been having related to Retrospec since February and until now, maybe even farther back.
— He’s a master at creating illusions, which is why we “disappeared” every night, just like the nonapp users in June. They feel like tests to make us disappear from Retrospec’s sights.
— Zee said that he was going to try his best to fix things while we most likely had to “deep dive” to fix the other ends he couldn’t reach; I saw someone on the app before it went down say that he was going to try something called a counter wave. If anyone shared dreams again, it was this.
— The puzzles were also a call for is to remember ourselves, if anyone else did them. [ with comment is a photo attachment of the puzzle completed on a library table; eren’s is a picture of his silhouette from behind, opening a door with the quote: "Turn him to any cause of policy, the Gordian Knot of it he will unloose, familiar as his garter." ]
— Speaking in riddles and not being direct is also an industry standard. I wish I could’ve had the time to punch him just a little bit, but. There would be a lot more people freaking out or at their throats than understanding and ready to help.

I have a post with its comments copied on a gdoc here before the app went down, I always save these. It’s got information about the layers and the Retrospec founders, including why Vanderweele was kicked off the program and should be dead when he isn’t.

I don’t know how many others noticed what was wrong in the castle by the beach— the resort getup completely deteriorated, just like an illusion, and someone on the phone said something in this flash drive. [ he uploads the file, and the voice says: “You have to get out of here. Please. Get us out of here.” ]

Not counting the carnival we all just got shepherded to and the blocked off Retrospec rooms. Everything just feels completely off, and I’m not going to play around with stall games while something really wrong could be happening. Is Happening. Our lives aren’t toys and we’re being played, I trust Wall Maria appearing more than I trust getting led to Rainbowland right now.

Calling Retrospec our enemy or a pain in the ass for “taking” color and taste away is superficial and petty when vengeance is targeting us to get to them. And with another app user killing criminals, including Zee off when these are all things that’re happening makes us farther from united than we already were. I don’t know about you guys, but this reality I was born in now is the only home I want, so I’ll do whatever I have to to fight for it.

Getting rid of people you think don’t matter, for whatever reason, is worth jack shit too if you’re dead right along with us.

I’m almost glad you stick out like a sore thumb, John.

Either we’ll get more evidence if we dig (or him, literally) or Retrospec’s going to cough it up eventually. I’m not planning on waiting for industry standard, though.

so let's start digging. we have the notes from tatsuo, and we have this information now. think there's anybody else withholding info from the rest of us?

Maybe the last person who saw Zee.
The only other obvious place I can think about looking into is Rainbow Land, because of the rooms. Even if they’re all locked.

do we even know who rainbow land belongs to? or if it belongs to one of us at all?
it is the newest thing so it is the most suspicious.
maybe zee's murderer is hiding there.

If it is, no one’s said anything yet. Zee’s murderer could be anywhere if they’re one of us.

But it could be something’s that’s been here and still be suspicious. It could’ve been Wall Maria and raise red flags for me either way. Why are there Retrospec rooms there? Why were we all led to that place with the glass boxes and people in them? Why is the logo off?

no offense but i am kind of glad it wasn't wall maria. it is looking more and more like one of the only places that hasn't been hit.
and i don't know but i noticed the logo, too.
all of those people in those boxes had tattoos on their hands, too.
something's wrong.
but i somehow doubt retrospec would fuck up their own logo.

the way i see it, we have three options here.
1.) it's definitely vanderweele.
2.) it's retrospec fucking shit up and trying not to be obvious.
3.) it's someone working with vanderweele.
or i guess actually there is also 4.) it is a third threat to worry about.
i would like it to not be 4. just saying.

My best bet is on 1 and 3. One person probably can’t do this all alone if Retrospec itself is a group.

And as much as we don’t want to think about it, I wouldn’t rule out 4. More threats can take advantage of the hole the first one’s making.

...if it WAS 4, what would it even be? what other threat could be out there that would have an interest in all of this?

I don’t know how this works, but . . . Vengeful spirits (???). Evil energy? I don’t know. And it kind of sounds ridiculous writing it out but actually seeing it in action is something else.

...yeah. we have had ghost problems in the city before. and in unreality.
if the ghosts are mad about what vanderweele did and are blaming retrospec itself, that might include us.
but i have no idea how to communicate with them.

What would you say counts as unreality?

the things we experienced in february? this? things that are not normally possible and are all twilight-zone-ish.
isn't that removed from reality?

For some reason I keep thinking about it as a place where all these things happen. Like pockets instead of the unreality phenomenon.

But I think I like yours better. It’s more in general.

pockets makes sense, too, but yeah. it's hard to justify a lot of what happens here, you know? that is why i think it is unreality.
mind-bending, changing stuff.
we just have to learn to combat it better but that is the hard part.
