i'm not dead anymore
so if anyone was still freaking out about that, well
don't, i guess

[ this is not a thing he thought he had to state but, well, apparently word does not travel through the grapevine as well as he thought, so. he might as well state it to the whole app at large. ]

anyway, first off,
if anyone needs help shoveling sidewalks or cleaning driveways or whatever after that snowstorm, let me know
or if you need anything else done even if it isn't snow-related
i'll do whatever you need for some cash and/or some clothes

second off,
does anyone know where i can get a fake id
i just need to replace the id stuff i lost when i died

third off,
i got some new stuff about the founders i think

this is from that cavendish house last month
there was an empty book in there and i wrote down everything i knew about them and then this reenactment thing started happening
not sure how much of this is new vs old but apparently this is how it went down forever ago at the start of all this
i'm not sure how this fits into everything else we have so far

[ He laughs a little. ]

Both.

[ He spent so many years begging to get a pet, but of course...no pets allowed in on-base housing. So neither he nor any of his friends had any pets.

As he sits down, though, he can't help but gawk at the Maine Coon. ]

I didn't know they made cats that big.

[The mental image of a man like Barnes begging the housing dept to let him have a dog is one Crow will never imagine, but will warm all our hearts nonetheless.

He can only smile in agreement as he wraps his arm around that giant cat to hoist him off that chair. The thing is friendly enough to not fight back at least, but he doesn't exactly help either. Dead weight of a cat is a go.]

Oof, tell me about it. I'd heard about these things, but you never really notice how big they are til they're next to the normal ones.

[With that cat deposited at his feet (where its eyes fix on James) Crow'll get down to business.]

I got the gloves and scarf right here for ya, pull em out and see if they work.

[ James takes one of the gloves and pulls it over a hand. It looks like it's got plenty of stretch and does, technically speaking, cover his hand...but just barely. The wool is stretched thin and it's taut enough that it's hard to have a full range of motion in them.

He sighs. Better than nothing, at least. ]

It'll work.

[Crow watches him take those gloves out of the bag as he hails the waitress over to grab a cup of coffee for James. At least to warm him up, since the guy probably came over without much to really keep him bundled up.

That maine coon seems to have rested comfortably by Crow's legs now, tail flicking contently as Crow pulls out a cat toy for it to play with.

The gloves themselves are at least of a camo color, the scarf a somewhat vivid green to match.]

She lives near the Everglades, so she's into the whole camo scene. Only downside is she's pretty tiny, so they're gonna be a little tight.

Hope they work out for ya.

[But that does raise the question he's had since this conversation started.] So you...died?

[ He pulls the glove off and sets it down next to the other one. He touches the scarf with his flesh hand and rubs it. It's pretty soft, which is nice.

He keeps his eyes focused on the scarf while he talks. ]

Yeah. Last month.

Sorry to hear that...

[His voice is sincere, if a little surprised. His eyes flick from the scarf back up to his face.]

I won't ask the details. But people don't usually come back from the dead--and if they do, it's not so pretty-- so I'll be honest when asking: This a Retrospec thing?

[ He nods. ]

Yeah. I'm not the first guy it's happened to either. I think I might be the fourth, actually. But all the others went back to living normal lives again, no app, nothing. They don't remember Retrospec anymore--or dying, probably.

So you're technically the first who's died and didn't lose the app...

Weird, wonder if the app's got something to do with bringing you back to life.

Probably. Considering it's only ever happened to other people on the app, that's gotta be it. Plus, when I came back, it was without any of the Retrospec stuff I'd gotten or remembered. That only came back a few days later.

A delayed remembrance...so it's like a slow boot up to get your memories back again.

Jeez, talk about crazy. I mean I appreciate the fact that we've got that safety net--not that I'm gonna go off testing it--but it's weird to think about death not being the be-all-end-all.

[ He shrugs. ]

I guess. You just get used to it after the first few times.

[ Although this is his first time dying for real, this is not his first time on the death-and-revival rodeo. ]

Damn, never thought I'd live in a world where 'resurrection' is a thing you learn to get used to.

[Except like...you know, your own canon, Crow.]

Still, glad to see you're in one piece. What are your plans from here on out?

[ Well that's a pretty big question there, buddy. Jame inhales deeply. ]

Find my own place to live. Keep doing errands for people until I can get a real, stable job. That's...about it for now, I guess.

[Hey they ask kids that in high school, you can do it at your age 30-ish!]

Sounds like a pretty solid plan, at least. Well, I can't offer much, but if you ever need to couch surf for a night, I'd be willing to lend mine.

[ He smiles lightly, as much as you can smile at a stranger offering you a favor or something nice. ]
