What's up, users! We've mostly fixed the technical problems we were having earlier (unless Danny missed something again) but you might want to wear green. Also, I'm supposed to make a vague and mysterious informational post here but that sounded boring so I made a video presentation instead! Watch on YouTube Cheers! Jim Halloway Research & Development Retrspec Incorporated As of this post all apples, oranges, lemons, and limes have been replaced in-universe as the silly dancing fruits shown above. This means that as with Chocobos all NPCs will insist this is how things have always been and history/movies/etc will back them up. In honor of St. Patrick's Day characters will find a request from Retrospec to upload a picture of themselves to the network in which they are wearing something green. They will find themselves shocked lightly by their device if they try to use it without complying. Rude? A non-triggered memory regain can be earned through participation in this post in honor of Lucy's birthday the holiday with proof of a single thread with at least five comments from your character. If you plan to redeem this, please submit it to our regains page with the explanation of "March freebie". This must be submitted before April to be valid! Regardless of whether or not a character earns the freebie, all characters will find a gold coin with the Retrospec logo on one side and a Chocobo on the other. On the outside edge of the coin they will find "Jim, put a meaningful quote here. - Janet" engraved in a beautiful font. The Chocobo will morph into a horse should your character obtain the memory regain from the event; it will stay a Chocobo if your character does not obtain the memory regain. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

"Sorry I can't help out with that first part. Whatever's been triggering people's memories, whatever Retrospec is up to? It seems to have passed me by." The 'so far' is left unspoken.

"I keep going back and forth on what I think we're going to get out of this. Either they've covered all their bases, and the mundane information isn't there. Or, in order to not cast suspicion on themselves from anyone who isn't a part of their game, all their paperwork and permits and things are in order." Togusa spreads his hands out in a shrug. "I've got to fall back on doing things as much by procedure as possible. At least then we can say that this information doesn't exist. Or that people aren't going in and out of that building."

"We can assist you two as much as possible, but, since it's not an official investigation, we'd have to help out on our off-hours, if that makes sense."

"It makes sense. I'll let you know what we find, but let's avoid using the Retrospec app to discuss details unless we're trying to cause a reaction."

He wonders briefly how the Retrospec staff might react to indirect provocation, and discards it quickly. They don't seem like the type to fall for things like this. They don't need to.

Viktor smiles wryly. "I'd bet on their paperwork and permits being in order. But even a name can help, as long as it's a real name." That's when his smile softens. "As for your support, we're used to working on our own, so we won't be asking too much from you, that much I can promise. But exchanging information should be beneficial for everyone, so let's keep in touch. If you like, we can meet up regularly to be sure."

"Of course," Togusa nods firmly. "Honestly, I rather prefer face-to-face interaction," he smirks.

"That's the hope. That we can get a real name and tie it to a real person. However frequently you'd like to exchange information, I'm sure we can work around your schedule. The others that have been dragged into this were Detectives Gabranth and Wolf, Officers Izunia, Lou, Sakakura, and Desk Sergeant Furugawa." He doesn't think he's forgetting anyone. "Feel free to speak to any of them about your findings."

Viktor takes out his phone and quickly takes note of those names just in case. But he speaks while he does-- multitasking is his bread and butter.

"OK, I'll keep that in mind. We can preemptively meet up one month from now, and be in touch to arrange a meeting via text if anything important comes up before then. By the way, you can find me at Dance!!! Studio during the day. It shouldn't be relevant, but Retrospec sometimes makes our phones act up, and who knows what might happen next?"

He puts his phone back in his pocket. "Now, for our fees. I assume you've heard about that from your superior as well?"

Annnd here we go to the part that Togusa had been avoiding, even though he knew this would come up. He shakes his head. "That I was less clear on, although we're prepared to accommodate whatever you need."

Read: it's a good thing that Togusa was saving up for that wedding that never materialized and he didn't go on a spending spree afterwards. Because he is doing this without Departmental approval so he can't hit the city up for money like they normally would for sub-contracting (or whatever you would call this?). Desperate times, desperate measures, indeed. But he keeps his expression as neutral as he can. No need to make Viktor feel guilty about it.

Well, Togusa is in luck! Guilt isn't something that comes naturally to Viktor in the first place. So he easily accepts Togusa's neutral expression, sealing the deal (and the fate of Togusa's savings, maybe) with a charming smile.

"We'll make you a special discount. I'll have the particulars emailed to you. Or should I have that sent to someone else?"

Togusa hesitates, glances at Viktor seriously. "If you'd- entrust that sort of thing to electronic communication, then sure, just send it to me. If not, I've got an inbox here for physical mail." Togusa, frankly, preferred to work in hard copy even before every computer and phone they picked up started automatically spying on them.

Viktor pauses to consider this, tapping his finger absently on his lips as he does.

"You have a point." He really hadn't thought about that before now, and it shows on his face. But when he's wrong, he has no problem in admitting it. "I'll do that. And I suppose then you would be paying in cash, rather than via bank transfer?"

Togusa actually has to think about that for a second. What looks less suspicious, Togusa? "If it wouldn't cast suspicion on you, I'd be fine with a wire transfer. Cops suddenly dealing in huge amounts of cash? There's not much that looks worse..."

[viktorymaker]

"Haha, thanks for taking that into consideration. But I'm not too worried about suspicions. A wire transfer is fine if you trust that. We're not doing anything illegal."

Besides, if there should be any trouble with the law, Viktor knows the Agency has his back as long as he's working as a private investigator. But there's no way he's going to say that. Togusa might not know about the Agency at all, and frankly, it's better that way.

"Nothing illegal, no," Togusa shakes his head. "But my side of it is pretty against policy. These things are usually supposed to go further up the chain before we decide to bring in a private investigator. But I take that on, myself."

Togusa is completely in the dark about how deep this rabbit hole goes. No warnings, no indication that there's anything more than a regular licensed private investigation team. With any luck, he'll stay that way.

Togusa nods, and stands up to dismiss him. "Feel free to contact me any time. Especially if you need any more support."

Viktor nods, standing up as well. Luck is usually on his side, except when Retrospec chooses to mess with it... That's part of the reason why he's invested in all of this.
