Hitori Togusa
4/2 near Recolle Police DepartmentIf you haven't met me before, this is Officer Hitori Togusa with the RPD. I have a request, for anyone comfortable sharing them. The photos that you're being sent? Could you keep an eye out for any kind of mirror or reflective surface anywhere in the shot? If you find them, could you send them along to me? We have software the might be able to find more in the shots than you'd be able to.
In addition, anyone who would like to make privacy complaints, I can only beg you to do so. We do not have a formal investigation into Retrospec at this time, but that may change if enough citizens come forwards with complaints. If you can, I'd even ask you to try to file them with people NOT on the application. I want to see if they'll notice anything wrong at that point.
Speaking of, there are a number of detectives, officers, and support personnel currently on the application, but rather than naming them outright, I'll leave it up to them to offer their services to the people of Recolle. I'm not sure who has a full case load right now and who doesn't.
Thank you.

Chloe Bouchard Based on experience, I will stick to spoken accounts however, as I suspect even a printed copy of the images would not be visible.
Chloe Bouchard I have seen even physical images sent by Retrospec change in the past depending on who was looking, or if I remembered something about them.
Chloe Bouchard It makes the photocopy I received last month worrisome.
no subject
Hitori Togusa But from what I can tell, they can actually see the photos? I just don't know if they'll take it seriously enough to warrant an investigation.
no subject
[Hopefully.]
Chloe Bouchard You might be right, though, and even without the photos, if there's enough of an attempt to get their attention, they have to do something at some point.
no subject
Hitori Togusa This all would have been easier if Retrospec had just added our Chief in the first place.
no subject
Chloe Bouchard And it almost certainly would have helped to have your chief and a judge on the app so that someone could at least see what is happening.
Chloe Bouchard But I suspect that they know this, which is why they haven't.

Hitori Togusa If Retrospec has this ability to put their spying application on anyone's phone, they can't get rid of it, and now Retrospec can see everything they're doing?
Hitori Togusa Why are they wasting it on us? If Mr. Halloway there is so bored, why not drag some more interesting people onto the platform? Like our Mayor, or other politicians, or judges, or our Chief?

Yoon-sung Lee 'Might' because I'm not sure what others would say considering how I could get the information.
no subject
Hitori Togusa Bad enough Retrospec is doing it, let's not make the epidemic of privacy violations any worse.
no subject
Yoon-sung Lee I can get into a couple video systems and record it.
no subject
Hitori Togusa I would have to ask you not to do that, just for the sheer illegality of it all. It's a telecommunications violation at the very least, not to mention a secondary privacy violation for the people involved.
[OOC: For the love of all that's holy, do not let Togusa stop you from actually doing this, you just brought the idea to the wrong cop.]

Batman does what he does I meanHe just saying.]Yoon-sung Lee I'm just saying if anyone does ask I could help in that respect, not that I would.

Hitori Togusa Back to the books. I swear, I've gotten so much review from my pre-law courses thanks to Retrospec. Last month I had to brush up on all Recolle's age limits for weapon ownership and public carry.

Elda Marker But it is good to have an officer confirming that they think that's a good idea.
Elda Marker I've some photos which might be good in terms of mirrors, but I've not seen anything in them myself.
no subject
Hitori Togusa Good to meet you, I don't believe we've spoken before? But everyone's names were displaying strange last month.
no subject
Elda Marker I would not know; I only was added as a "tester" the other day.
Elda Marker Still, other than minor vandalism against my house, I've had little run in with the law, so that isn't surprising. It's a pleasure to meet you and I hope that the user of technology will help us.
no subject
Hitori Togusa On the plus side, I think that having so many of us officers on here can only help us respond to things faster.
Hitori Togusa I'll give Retrospec this, when there was an emergency a few months ago, a blackout? Their network was still working. So at least we might be able to use this to coordinate when things are going wrong.
no subject
Elda Marker I can see where it would be charming to have to ask names. Particularly given the lacking picture quality
Elda Marker Are you worried about security for using it like that?

Rachel Hishimura I did want to ask a question, however.
Rachel Hishimura Have you observed the kind of response putting a privacy complaint gets from your department? If so, is it taken seriously or is it treated the same way as when people not on Retrospec react to the changes in the world?
no subject
Hitori Togusa Unfortunately, I haven't observed it, because no one has done it yet. If I try to bring it to the other members of the Department, directly, they can't see a thing.
Hitori Togusa I'm asking for your help, because I want to be able to do more to protect people. We would be able to get so much farther with official Department resources. But my Chief, the one person who would be able to attribute us those resources, wasn't lucky enough to get chosen here.
Hitori Togusa Since I can't just show him? We've got to find another way to convince him.
no subject
Rachel Hishimura So I'd like to extend my apologies.
Rachel Hishimura I will submit a formal complaint as soon as I'm able to after school, thank you.
no subject
Hitori Togusa It takes a lot of courage to speak up about something that other people are literally telling you doesn't exist.
Hitori Togusa If you'd rather give your complaint to me, or you want somebody to be there when you talk to somebody, just let me know, okay?
no subject
Rachel Hishimura I think I'd like to give it to you, then. I feel like I'd have more peace of mind that you'd take it seriously than someone not on Retrospec.
Rachel Hishimura When your own mother thinks something like this is a stress related break... it can make you guarded.

Karl Bergfried By the way, I had forgoten to mention it, but as of a couple of weeks ago it seems that I am no longer in your proposed "control group." Unfortunately.
no subject
Hitori Togusa Well. Now that's interesting, because I think that leaves me and only one other person.
Hitori Togusa A different man would be given to paranoia now. But maybe I'm just not doing the right things. Or, again, we're back on the 'get on a normal sleep schedule, Hitori' theory.
