Hi everyone. a lot has happened in the past few months and Retrospec seems to be pulling in more and more people. we don't have all the answers yet and it's pretty scary at times...

to make things even weirder, there are multiple people who have encountered spirits in the woods

like myself

call them ghosts or specters -- whatever they are, they used to live here and they're agitated about something. I don't know what that is but I want to find out

I'll be exploring a different area rumored to have spirits and other weird things happening there. someone suggested we work together so I'm opening this up to everyone. if you want to come, let me know and I'll give you the details privately. bring a flashlight and a camera if you have one.

if we do run into them, the shades respond best to people who are friendly and polite. be courteous to your elders and all

that's about it. if we find anything I'll be sure to let everyone know.

There is no scientific basis for the concept of a spirit or soul, or the idea of an afterlife.
When we die that is it.

There must be an alternative explanation.

I'm a scientist of a sort myself so I understand the skepticism.
I've considered that it might be something from the visions I've had leaking over too.
magic was definitely at play in those

It could have been simply advanced science.
Nanomachines, perhaps.

there's nothing simple about nanomachines.
especially when everyone was dressed like the middle ages and fighting with swords and spears
I can't really explain what I saw but it didn't seem like science was remotely involved.
my best friend was invisible to everyone
and I've seen him conjure huge amounts of water twice in those visions

maybe the world I was in before wasn't one that operates with the same laws we have here

Perhaps. I tend to assume laws are universal.
That's what makes them laws.

My theory is that this is a simulation by a technologically advanced society, and our past "lives" come from worlds of different development.

That said, magic is not "ghosts."

science is completely broken right now.
they could take gravity away next and then technically we won't have that law anymore.

while I can't say I like that theory, it's certainly a possibility.

couldn't sufficiently weird enough magic be seen as ghosts?
the people in my visions weren't ghosts, but they didn't act like ghosts either
the spirits I've seen in Recolle did

Ghosts are defined as the spirits of the dead.
If it's something else, it isn't a ghost.

Also, given that my hypothesis that this is a simulation keeps strengthening day by day, I'm hesitant to apply what happens here to the laws of physics elsewhere.
Talking about the lives we lived before is different.

I guess that's true. I wouldn't rule it out though
they couldn't tell me how they died, but they weren't completely corporeal
and they were dressed in clothes from like sixty years ago

I don't think it's too much of a stretch since stuff from our past lives keeps leaking in here
either it's sent to us, or we develop some kind of ability
if the monsters from my visions start showing up too we're gonna have problems

Exorcists fight spirits and demons who have possessed others.
That's what the word means.

I'm not sure what an exorcist has to do with spiders or slime.

I saw people turn into monsters and then I turned them back.
so it's less like the horror movie exorcism and more the movie kind I guess

So in your vision, these monsters... they were just transformed humans?

Could you make that pact with someone else?

the pact let her share her power with me.
she couldn't act directly to help because it's too dangerous
so in exchange for letting me use her power, she could take shelter inside my soul.
others like her could make pacts too, and I'd be able to use their powers as well
but it all begins and ends with her.

So you're saying that your power was less to do the exorcism, and more to... share the powers of others?
Why did she need you, then?

I was the only one who could see her and make the pact.
I have no doubt that if someone else could see spirits the way I could, they'd be more qualified.
but there was no one else.

So she wasn't human, but a spirit?
I feel like you should have led with that information.
