An announcement and a rumor

Let me first say that I know Jim and the rest of Retrospec can see everything we write here, but if they're hinting at something with their "how to start a campfire" taunt, they'll soon know how good we all are at that.

This month, I received a power I previously saw in my visions - a sort of spirit that fights for me. From what I recall, I can manipulate fire with its aid, but I can also set things on fire with my mind apparently. It's unclear, but in the end, I am hoping to hone my skills well enough to actually start fires on my own.

If we are ever in need of a fire, know that I'm available. In fact, we should keep in mind what powers each of us have in case the time comes. Whatever Retrospec throws at us, we have to be prepared to fight back.

This isn't an invitation for requests to burn down the city. Any sort of power comes with the responsibility to wield it wisely, and I make the final decision.

And if I can start a fire, I can end it.

P.S. I think Professor Suaveterre uses L'Oreal products for his hair. It's the only explanation that makes sense.

Seeing as you've put all this out here for our perusal already, I don't suppose you would mind providing details about exactly what this...fire manipulation entails? Setting fires with one's mind is an impressive talent, but I'm curious about this spirit of yours as well.

Neither, actually! I mean it's definitely from Retrospec, but I didn't get any vision or anything to let me know that it was coming. I just came across some Icelandic one day and realized I could read it.

It's not hard when you grew up with it, haha! I could say the same for Arabic. You know what's a real achievement? Your fire spirit.

From what I've seen, I was able to create large flames in a matter of seconds and manipulate them to strike a moving target. Right now, all I can manage are candles and warming things.

I have been practicing over the past week on summoning this spirit in hopes that it will help me advance in my abilities, so it may not appear on command just yet. From what I've found out by talking to others with a similar ability, it's called a Persona. [He will regret saying this many months in the future.] It's some part of my psyche or soul, and I do feel as if it's part of me. Does that make sense?

I didn't do anything to earn it. It's not like setting things on fire requires the same set of skills as speaking Icelandic

It does, even if it sounds a bit surreal to me still. While I'm not certain how I feel about this entire "Persona" thing, I imagine that manipulation ability will prove to be very useful someday, whether or not it's due to anything that ends up being Retrospec's doing.

The ability to heat things is useful in itself. Fire is essential in metal working, and I'm sure I'll find other ways to use it.

okay but what about people also learning how to use like, matches. or one of those metal things for fire starting, whatever they are?

not that it isn't freaking awesome you apparently control FIRE with a spirit (wth?! i love it, can't be a ghost, too cool) but that also is kind of a tall order for one guy to cover two hundred plus people's fire needs all at once

It hasn't yet, thought it may be because I haven't used it often. It is a bit tiring to concentrate on summoning it when I want to.
