The NPCs continue to think monsters are a normal thing as monsters continue to be a part of everyday life, although the monsters are now decidedly less holographic (despite their dissipation continuing to be a thing) and more hostile. If you are frightened, you do not have to go.
Retrospec is not our masters, and we can do whatever we wish, regardless of what it does.
There are monsters, and changes to the world, there is every reason to not go should you not wish to.
And it is good to look out for your own safety.
