Following the events of the last month, I've chosen to take up kendo to further my self-defense skills. Does anyone have any recommendations on good instructors in the city, or know anyone that I might be able to spar with?

Kaguya Pekoyama I don't have any kendo background outside of memories, but I hope that will allow me to pick things up quickly.

Yasusada Yamato It's fine, I've worked with beginners before
Yasusada Yamato But I feel like I should mention that kendo on its own might not be the best for defending yourself against the sort of stuff we've been dealing with
Yasusada Yamato Normal kendo is great but if you want I can teach you some of the other things I know along with it, it might be a little more helpful

Kaguya Pekoyama I believe any sort of weapons training will be an improvement, as hand-to-hand combat was even less useful against the various monsters.
Kaguya Pekoyama But I certainly wouldn't mind learning other techniques for self-defense, if you are offering.

Yasusada Yamato it's just that kendo is pretty... not rigid, formal?

Kaguya Pekoyama I was first planning to assess what options were available for instruction, and then acquire the necessary supplies afterward.
Kaguya Pekoyama I will likely be purchasing some shortly, however.

Yasusada Yamato I'm not sure my armor would fit you but I can at least give you a bokuto and a shinai

Yasusada Yamato If they suit you, you can keep them
Yasusada Yamato I used to save them for sparring with friends outside of the dojo but
Yasusada Yamato we haven't had time to use them in a while and we all have real swords now anyway
Yasusada Yamato I'd rather pass them on to someone who will use them like they deserve

[And here he is, freely admitting that he has Feelings about his kendo gear... y'know, in case it wasn't obvious enough that he's a weirdo.]
