Kaguya Pekoyama 9/3 near Recolle

Following the events of the last month, I've chosen to take up kendo to further my self-defense skills. Does anyone have any recommendations on good instructors in the city, or know anyone that I might be able to spar with? Any leads are appreciated.

Kaguya Pekoyama Yes. Mostly wooden swords, I believe, but my understanding is that it's very similar techniques to traditional swordplay.

but I'm brand new at this stuff, so I don't think I'll be all that good at it yet.

Kaguya Pekoyama That is all right. You shouldn't push yourself beyond your limits.
Kaguya Pekoyama I've studied alternate forms of martial arts before, which is why I figured I could learn by doing if necessary.

Kaguya Pekoyama I'll admit there are other reasons for my interest as well, but increasing my skills with weaponry is one of the main ones.

some sort of ranged weapon, honestly. gun, bow and arrow, have at it. if monsters attack again, defeating them from a distance will help a lot.

Yasusada Yamato It's fine, I've worked with beginners before
Yasusada Yamato But I feel like I should mention that kendo on its own might not be the best for defending yourself against the sort of stuff we've been dealing with
Yasusada Yamato Normal kendo is great but if you want I can teach you some of the other things I know along with it, it might be a little more helpful

you could probably figure out something better than shouting and whacking things with a wooden sword to defend yourself

Kaguya Pekoyama I think you underestimate the effect a properly-wielded staff could have, much less a wooden sword.
Kaguya Pekoyama Perhaps I'll move on to actual swordsmanship afterward, but I believe this to be a good place to start.
