TEXT ♞ INFO SHARING

Hey everyone, Souji (in blue) and Dave (in red) here. I know that some of us don't want to remember the events of last month, especially not so soon, but it's important for us to share what we found or did while it's still fresh in our minds. So, this is a general discussion post for everything that happened in August.

to that end theres gonna be an in person meeting later on possibly with refreshments
were not above bribery here even if i am personally above fancy capital letters
but info that maybe shouldnt wait for then is that team space jam found a dead dude who had a thing that said according to a sphinx
the recolle project is a thing that is like reconstruction rather than reincarnation bringing back stuff thats ours

Essentially, the Recollé Project outlines this stuff as memories, items, and abilities. Rather than regaining things from a past life like reincarnation as Dave said, it's more like regaining things that were buried - to bring them forth to us.

There wasn't much else in the report asides from a map of the city, but the sphinx (it’s a long story but it appeared to have knowledge about the project) confirmed that this was true.

so anyway bring yourselves and possibly snacks to the sandiego foundation on saturday
we will try to make sure at least one person from every team from last months little whatever is around
newbies and oldbies should both come to revel in the glory of information
and like seasonally themed snacks maybe we will have pumpkin pie because i want some
last but not least and speaking of newbies theres one more thing to go over here

It's clear that Retrospec is going to continue adding new users to their app so Dave and I thought it was best that we created a guide to Retrospec for all the future newcomers (and old users too). We're going to type something up really soon but we wanted to ask what you'd like to see in the guide. Frequently asked questions answered, what we know so far about the Retrospec team, how to change your font into a really cool colour like ours, stuff like that.

nearly as cool anyway
you have to do some serious training and animal spirit sensing to get a color as cool as this
but yeah talk at you all later
or like soonish when you reply

( ooc: this is an ic discussion and info gathering post that is open to everyone, so feel free to jump into other threads and whatnot! this takes place alongside the in-person ic info gathering post which can be found here )

Your simulation theory has some problems.

The idea of a simulation being effective is predicated on the person receiving the simulation having a sapient conscience. If these flashes are of our true selves, and the rest of this world is a simulation, wouldn't our true selves need to have some form of sapience?

That entirely depends on the means by which the simulation is created.

For instance, suppose that in whatever "real world" exists, all of our bodies are currently lying in nutrient tanks, hooked up to a massive machine wherein we live out this second life.
In that case, you would be correct.

In another scenario, those true selves are not connected to the simulation, but we are simply based off them. Perhaps they scanned our brains somehow and input us in to a computer world, or perhaps the technology is far beyond anything we're capable of imagining.

I doubt any technology is advanced enough to convince an object that it is human.

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-07 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what you're trying to get at.
liberal_arts: (break the incredible)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-07 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Must I really make it clearer?

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-07 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I've drawn an inference, yes, but in the interest of ensuring we're not talking past each other, being cryptic doesn't help.

You're saying you're an inanimate object in your memories.
liberal_arts: (thought you'd leave me for dead)

-Naoto hadn't meant to, but this was the first time since the idea had pressed its way to the forefront of his consciousness that anyone had forced him to actually confront it in such a way. Or rather, he'd never had to say it, or type it, or even so much as mention it this much. It had always been vague, disassociative feelings before.

So just say it, he tells himself. Just say that you know, in your heart of hearts, that you are not human. That you're not even a thinking being. You're a sword. Just say it.-

That is a possibility I've been presented.
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-07 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
What evidence have you been presented that leads you to believe it's true?
liberal_arts: (the fate broke down)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-07 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
-... He didn't know, for certain, but something tells him this person wouldn't accept "Because I just know" as evidence at all. He wasn't even sure why he accepted it.-

It is an inclination as strong as breathing, or having a heart beat. Like it is simply a part of being.
truedetective: (11)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-08 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
While I appreciate that you may have strong feelings...
That isn't evidence.
liberal_arts: (liberal arts major)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-08 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand. But I still cannot, at this moment, accept your ideas.

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-09 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You're under no obligation to.
That doesn't make them any less true, if I'm correct.
liberal_arts: (the fate broke down)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-10 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
And if you're not?
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-11 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Then my hypothesis would be irrelevant, of course.
That much should be obvious.
liberal_arts: (tear it all away)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-11 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't asking from an analytical perspective.
truedetective: (03)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-12 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
That's what you'll usually find from me, unfortunately.
If my hypothesis is incorrect, then you are correct about not having been inanimate at one point.
And I will need to find a new hypothesis to explain both our hallucinated memories and the absurdity that is the world we currently live in.
liberal_arts: (upside down and inside out)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-12 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
So that's it? You have no emotional investment in the outcome? You sound like a machine, if I can be so frank.

You are a person caught in this madness, same as the rest of us, are you not?

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-15 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I am not a machine.
I am solely interested in uncovering the truth of the matter.
My own personal feelings are irrelevant and can, and should, be put aside.
Whether or not I like something does not make it any less true.
liberal_arts: (years have deserted me)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-15 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Truth"

I suppose as an artist, I cannot see "truth" in objective terms. "Truth" is a matter of perspective.
truedetective: (03)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-17 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't agree.
There will always be a truth, an objective reality.
Artists may seek alternative truths, but that doesn't make them real.
liberal_arts: (if I were you I would take this as a sig)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-17 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Is what you're doing right now not seeking out an alternative truth to the one presented?

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-19 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because I don't believe this truth to be real.
But there may yet be truth underneath all of it.

And if there is, that will be the objective reality, whatever we think or not.
liberal_arts: (kissed by a rose on the grave)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2017-09-20 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And why this belief? You say you don't believe this truth to be real. Belief is a subjective term. Why do you seek an alternative?
