retrospec | TEXT ♞ INFO SHARING

Hey everyone, Souji (in blue) and Dave (in red) here. I know that some of us don't want to remember the events of last month, especially not so soon, but it's important for us to share what we found or did while it's still fresh in our minds. So, this is a general discussion post for everything that happened in August.

the recolle project is a thing that is like reconstruction rather than reincarnation bringing back stuff thats ours

Essentially, the Recollé Project outlines this stuff as memories, items, and abilities. Rather than regaining things from a past life like reincarnation as Dave said, it's more like regaining things that were buried - to bring them forth to us.

There wasn't much else in the report asides from a map of the city, but the sphinx (it’s a long story but it appeared to have knowledge about the project) confirmed that this was true.

so anyway bring yourselves and possibly snacks to the sandiego foundation on saturday

It's clear that Retrospec is going to continue adding new users to their app so Dave and I thought it was best that we created a guide to Retrospec for all the future newcomers (and old users too). We're going to type something up really soon but we wanted to ask what you'd like to see in the guide. Frequently asked questions answered, what we know so far about the Retrospec team, how to change your font into a really cool colour like ours, stuff like that.

Yu and I thought we were reincarnated from the same person, which would explain everything (our memories, abilities, being twins), but this information tells us this isn't reincarnation at all.

The same person? Do you mean to say that your memories have been exact duplicates of each other?

[Let's start with that, first.]

Yes.

We've shared the exact same memories and within them, there are no indications that we both exist at the same time. It's just... one of us.

[There's a delay before this goes through. He's putting a fair amount of consideration into this, because he didn't know their memories aligned so closely to each other.]

This means, of course, the theory before would be that you were reincarnations of the same person, as you said. But "reconstruction"... now, does that mean there were in fact /two/ variants of this same person?

And how does that settle with you?

I've just spoken to Professor Lutece and she suggested that we may be the same person but in /very/ similar universes. She explained that the only real difference might have been our names or something as small as that for two separate but closely similar universes to exist.

If that's the case then that does make me feel... a bit better, though can't help but feel unsettled about all this without a certain answer and what this would mean for us.

[He decides to ask, quite plainly:]

Are you afraid that there's nothing truly there to distinguish yourselves from each other?

No, Yu and I know that we're two separate people and that won't change. Even if we were the same person in the memories, we're brothers in this world and that's what matters, but...

... I don't know. It's hard to explain and to pinpoint what exactly worries me but I can't help but feel uneasy. I haven't heard anyone else having this sort of situation and I'm wondering why we're the only ones facing this.

I suppose time will tell whether or not this distinction that you two possess will mean anything special in future. I cannot blame you for feeling uneasy, but my main concern is one that you've already addressed and assuaged: that you two are your own person, no matter how similar your memories may be. Brothers until the end.

[Please. No existential crises for this family. As moot as a point as it may end up being.]

Yes. Regardless of what happened in our past lives, we are brothers in this life and world and that's what matters.

I'm glad to hear it. Another year of getting to spend time with my nephews and their cats; another year of sorting through memories together and whatever ridiculousness this app throws our way.
