TEXT ♞ INFO SHARING

Hey everyone, Souji (in blue) and Dave (in red) here. I know that some of us don't want to remember the events of last month, especially not so soon, but it's important for us to share what we found or did while it's still fresh in our minds. So, this is a general discussion post for everything that happened in August.

to that end theres gonna be an in person meeting later on possibly with refreshments
were not above bribery here even if i am personally above fancy capital letters
but info that maybe shouldnt wait for then is that team space jam found a dead dude who had a thing that said according to a sphinx
the recolle project is a thing that is like reconstruction rather than reincarnation bringing back stuff thats ours

Essentially, the Recollé Project outlines this stuff as memories, items, and abilities. Rather than regaining things from a past life like reincarnation as Dave said, it's more like regaining things that were buried - to bring them forth to us.

There wasn't much else in the report asides from a map of the city, but the sphinx (it’s a long story but it appeared to have knowledge about the project) confirmed that this was true.

so anyway bring yourselves and possibly snacks to the sandiego foundation on saturday
we will try to make sure at least one person from every team from last months little whatever is around
newbies and oldbies should both come to revel in the glory of information
and like seasonally themed snacks maybe we will have pumpkin pie because i want some
last but not least and speaking of newbies theres one more thing to go over here

It's clear that Retrospec is going to continue adding new users to their app so Dave and I thought it was best that we created a guide to Retrospec for all the future newcomers (and old users too). We're going to type something up really soon but we wanted to ask what you'd like to see in the guide. Frequently asked questions answered, what we know so far about the Retrospec team, how to change your font into a really cool colour like ours, stuff like that.

nearly as cool anyway
you have to do some serious training and animal spirit sensing to get a color as cool as this
but yeah talk at you all later
or like soonish when you reply

( ooc: this is an ic discussion and info gathering post that is open to everyone, so feel free to jump into other threads and whatnot! this takes place alongside the in-person ic info gathering post which can be found here )

Which parts don't you understand?
I can try to explain what I know.

These memories... are they really from a different life?
I've only heard of them from the Retrospec.

Nobody knows for sure. How can we?
It's entirely possible that they're complete fabrications and that the world here is the only one we've ever existed in.

But there are too many points of commonality with others. Things we never told them that are nonetheless consistent.

Whether they're a past life or an alternate universe, I'm not sure. But I believe those lives to have been real ones.

I see...

[It still feels a bit like being thrown in the deep end of the pool without learning to swim first, but she's trying here.]

So this... reconstruction they're talking about?

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-09 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure on that, either. But consider this theory:

We live other existences, the ones we're remembering. For some reason-- perhaps this "unreality" that we've been learning about-- it's determined that we need to be saved.
Our consciousnesses are uploaded to an incredibly advanced simulation.
That's where we are now.

I have no idea how much, if any, of that is accurate, but the idea that this world is simulated fits scarily well with the facts.

-Simulated?-

I'm sorry, I know your theory is valid, but I can't accept it. Not a simulation.

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-11 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand it may be difficult to accept.
But whether you accept it or not doesn't make it any less potentially true.
I keep looking for evidence against this theory, and finding none.
It fits all the facts as we know them.
gunsandveggies: (✿ 42)

[personal profile] gunsandveggies 2017-09-13 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It -is- valid, I do acknowledge that.
But even if it's true, it's not something I can accept. We've lived our lives as human beings with human emotions and feelings, and ties to other humans as well. There's nothing simulated about any of that.
I appreciate your theory, but do you have any others? Simulation can't be the only answer.

Uh
Capricious and/or vengeful deity?
Really, after we were shrunk to a handful of inches high, it's hard to trust that reality is what it claims to be.
gunsandveggies: (✿ 43)

[personal profile] gunsandveggies 2017-09-15 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think I've heard of that one! Was everyone all right during that? No one got hurt, right?
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-17 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Not significantly, as far as I am aware.
It does, however, lend credence to the idea that reality is inherently mutable.
Which supports the simulation hypothesis.

Someone has power over this "reality." Whether you want to ascribe that power to a deity or a programmer is up to you, I suppose.

[personal profile] gunsandveggies 2017-09-20 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Could it be Jim? I've heard he's an unsavory man. (;⌣̀_⌣́) Or the others in charge of Retrospec itself?

[She still doesn't like the whole simulation idea, but Haru wants to keep an open mind about this. Something, at least, is changing the world as they know it, she can accept that much.]

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-20 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
It's certainly possible, yes.
But then we get back to the problem over how someone like Jim might possibly do such a thing.
Either Jim is said deity, or...

...do you see the justification for the simulation theory now?
gunsandveggies: (✿ 56)

[personal profile] gunsandveggies 2017-09-20 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, but I don't believe I ever questioned its validity. I simply said that I can't accept it.
That being said, yes, I do see the justification behind it. I'd just like to explore all the other possibilities before focusing on a single one, that's all.

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's fair.
I believed as you do, once. I looked for an alternative explanation that could fit everything I both knew and reasoned about the world.

I did not find one. Perhaps you will.
gunsandveggies: (✿ 40)

[personal profile] gunsandveggies 2017-09-25 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll let you know if I do, alright? We can discuss the possibility together!
Thank you for presenting your theory, though. I'll keep it in mind going forward with this.

[It's not a good thing to keep in mind, but like she said, she doesn't doubt its validity. It's just too much to think that it could be the true explanation.]
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-26 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
All right.
At any rate, that's about it in terms of my theories and hypotheses.
