So here’s a hypothetical situation for all of you out there.

Let’s say that, hypothetically speaking, you have an older sibling. While this older sibling of yours did not raise you, they have looked out for you for most of your life. This older sibling also eventually became your legal guardian for two years.

And then you fuck up in a sort of big way, but you’re now a legal adult.

In this totally hypothetical situation, would you say it’s messed up if this older sibling of yours grounds you? Like, I mean, come on! You’re a legal adult now! You’re too old to be grounded!

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hypothetically, are you still living with the older sibling?

In this totally hypothetical situation, yes,
the younger sibling is still living with the older sibling.

Hypothetically, is the older sibling paying for the costs of their housing, and does the younger sibling pay rent?

Hypothetically, the younger sibling just moved back home after living out of state, which is where the fuck up happened.
And while the talk about rent hasn't come up yet, the younger sibling totally has plans on how to help.

The younger sibling should probably discuss those plans and put them into action, because as it is right now, the younger sibling is living in the older sibling's house and is dependent on him in a practical sense if not a legal sense. Basically, their house, their rules.

Not really. Older siblings have that privilege.

Of course the definition of grounding may differ from "no desserts or going out" to what I imagine is something else by adult age.

Plans will be discussed soon... ish.

But don't you think that grounding the younger brother, who is a legal adult,
is a little too much?

The older sibling totally meant it in a "I am the parent and you are the child" sort of way.

It depends on the way the younger brother fucked up, but my parents absolutely grounded me when I was living with them even when I was an adult.

A transfer from an out of state university to an in state one where the younger sibling can live with the older sibling.

Which means a loss of a pretty good scholarship but in the end not the worst that could have happened?
