Hello Retrospec! Last week on Joanne’s network post, me and my ReVA coworker Terra Mason challenged each other to see who could get the most virtual candies. We finally had the time to sit down and count, and here are the results! The winner, by one single treat... ...is Terra, with 37 virtual candies! Congratulations, Terra! We don't usually have bets connected with our competitions...but it'd probably be more fun if we did. I'll have to pitch him the idea. Any suggestions?

Cupcake baking contest and volunteer taste testers.

[ and you have a volunteer!!! right here!!!!!!!!!!! call her when this happens, etc. ]

I would win that one hands down. I'd have to win that one, or else I wouldn't be able to call myself a baker anymore.

[buncho]

[ This whole trick or treating thing, Minako was supposed to win hands down too, Mafuyu thinks, so that's where the high stakes come in.

But non-bakers screwing around with food would probably also make her sad for wasting food, so. Alright, another idea. ]

Then I dunno, what do you do in ReVA? I did the youth group there a bit but not much anymore.

We usually plan events together. A lot of stuff that we actually have to be serious for...but maybe we could make a game out of that somehow.

[She taps her chin.]

A contest to see how many people sign up for our event, maybe?

[buncho]

[ Mafuyu shakes her head. ]

Nah, there'd be people like me who'd sign up and not go.

[ Unfortunately... yeah. Gifting pixel treats was extremely low effort, which is why this contest worked out so well. ]

You'll think of something though. But hey, I was here with Yanagi the other day and he reminded me of way back when the shop first opened years and years ago: there was a promotion where people got to design their own cupcakes— mine had strawberries and raspberries and chocolate sprinkles and sour candy straws! You should tell your boss to bring that back.

Hmm, like one of those yogurt places where you choose your yogurt, and then add your toppings?

[She trots off behind the counter, pulling out Mafuyu's box of cupcakes...but also surveying the area, wondering if they'd have the space to put in a topping bar.]

[buncho]

Sorta, but you can stuff things inside the cupcakes too— I had a whole strawberry inside mine!

[ Remembering that makes her smile; it was the best cupcake she's ever had, simply because it was an abomination of her own design, and many people likely thought the same with how successful the promotion was. It was special, even though Mafuyu looks just as excited for the half dozen Minako pulls out now, hands flat on the counter and arms locked straight to push herself up to see, feet danging above the ground. ]

A strawberry stuffed cupcake? Hmmm.

[Is that too close to the Confectionary's nemesis bakery down the street, that puts jam in the center of their French style cupcakes?

...naaah, not at all. She'll have to pitch the idea to the boss later.]

Anyways, thanks for waiting, Mafuyu! Here you go, your half dozen cupcakes as requested~

[buncho]

[ Jam doesn't cut it! It has to be fresh fruit and light cream, like in layered cake but in mini form. Besides, Mafuyu's sure people will keep coming to the Confectionary on a loyalty basis, just like how she gets all her cupcakes here, even though she's not the one actually buying them. ]

Yessssss!! This is way better than going to school, thanks, Minako!

[ She takes the box in hand, opens it to inspect its contents, and immediately picks up one topped with strawberry to eat, because why wait? ]

[Minako looks at the girl thoughtfully, an idea brewing in her mind. Lecturing Mafuyu isn't going to work, she's as stubborn as a mule. But...bribing her got her awfully motivated...]

Mafuyu, what would you do to get more free cupcakes?

[buncho]

[ The better question is probably: "What wouldn't you do to get more free cupcakes?" because Yato's already using those as bribes to get her to attend school more regularly. That said, she would probably do anything short of killing a man. Maybe even that. ]

I can do anything! Why? Need help at ReVA or something?

No, it's not that...it's more like...

Well, would you go to school for cupcakes?

[buncho]

Mm... Yaboku already made me that deal: one cupcake for every six periods I sit through.

[ In the first month, when her motivation was the highest, she earned a total of...!! six cupcakes. ]

[Sasuga Yato. Minako tilts her head.]

Sooo...guessing it didn't work for long?

[buncho]

I sort of... forgot about him. And the deal. Don't tell him, though.

[ It wasn't on purpose! But Yato's existence as a god is very finicky and coupled with Mafuyu's attention span of half a second, not even being family saved him from being forgotten. ]

[complementing]

I won't. I kind of forgot about him too, until he reminded me.

[She holds up her phone, showing off the little keychain hanging from it-- a little Koromaru in a tracksuit.]

[buncho]

[ Mafuyu makes a face at that— not because Koromaru isn't cute, but because he's wearing that stupid tracksuit that basically screams YATO the moment you see it; it's a very effective reminder. ]

I got something like that too, only we hung it up inside the house.

[ ...It's also equal parts unfortunate and effective, so she's not going to tell Minako what it is, instead pushing away from the counter with her box of cupcakes now that she's got what she came here for. ]

But I won't forget him as long as I go home sometimes, so it doesn't matter anymore. I'll go to school sometimes too and make Yaboku pick up more cupcakes, so I'll catch you later.
