What's up, users! We've mostly fixed the technical problems we were having earlier (unless Danny missed something again) but you might want to wear green. Also, I'm supposed to make a vague and mysterious informational post here but that sounded boring so I made a video presentation instead!

Cheers!

Retrspec Incorporated

As of this post all apples, oranges, lemons, and limes have been replaced in-universe as the silly dancing fruits shown above. This means that as with Chocobos all NPCs will insist this is how things have always been and history/movies/etc will back them up.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day characters will find a request from Retrospec to upload a picture of themselves to the network in which they are wearing something green. They will find themselves shocked lightly by their device if they try to use it without complying. Rude?

A non-triggered memory regain can be earned through participation in this post in honor of Lucy's birthday the holiday with proof of a single thread with at least five comments from your character. If you plan to redeem this, please submit it to our regains page with the explanation of "March freebie". This must be submitted before April to be valid! Regardless of whether or not a character earns the freebie, all characters will find a gold coin with the Retrospec logo on one side and a Chocobo on the other. On the outside edge of the coin they will find "Jim, put a meaningful quote here. - Janet" engraved in a beautiful font. The Chocobo will morph into a horse should your character obtain the memory regain from the event; it will stay a Chocobo if your character does not obtain the memory regain.

Please see our OOC information post HERE for some information and reminders - you can direct any questions about this post there!

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

Ignore this joke, no one gets it, but I couldn't stop myself.

Clearly, there were better choices of Queen songs for a proposal. Don't Stop Me Now is the only option.

Also, mail call.

And worse ones. Or do we mean more hilarious? Another One Bites the Dust, perhaps?

And thank you. I'll be sure to check.

Not conducive to romance, but I've always been partial to Death on Two Legs, just because of the story behind it. Piss off one of the biggest bands of all time, and they will open their best album with a song telling you to go kill yourself.

Bad management makes for unhappy bandmates. After all, if you upset an artist of any sort, you should expect that their next work will be dedicated to you.

Noted. I will try not to upset my best friend, then, because he is a very good painter. And he's got ten years worth of material saved up for a truly scathing portrait if I gave him the cause to.

As the song goes, "Do you feel good? I feel good."

[He chuckles on his end.]

A painter's wrath, their subject immortalized in the form of an oil painting. Perhaps he'd be good enough to choose a nice frame at any rate.

Even if Jim there's delivery falls short, the sentiment is a nice one, at least. But now to see if Janet appreciates that he wants all of us to realize how important he thinks she is.

Or if this came completely out of left field and he embarrassed the poor woman, instead. Do you think we'll be privy to her reply?

I hope so. I think some people here are more concerned about what her answer is, instead of the fact that we now have singing fruit.

I for one will be very disappointed if we aren't told of it.

Don't get me wrong, the singing fruit is a major cause for concern, but I don't see much we can do about it. And it's baffling as to why they're even here, except for the fact that someone got a delivery of them from Retrospec before the shift happened.

The declaration of love is a good distraction, it feels more productive to let that occupy your mind.

I think "productive" may be a very liberal use of the word.

Still, you're right. Let us all drown in the ridiculousness of it all, for we're still lacking the answers that we really want.

Two things are sticking out. One more personally relevant to you.

Somebody pointed out something about the pageant your nephew was asked to help run. The memories that people have been reporting getting. Haven't seen anything, myself, but if Retrospec can offer one of these up as a prize, that means they have some definite control over what people are experiencing. Or they're triggering them.

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-03-28 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've thought of that. But it contradicts the nature of how a few of my own memories have been "triggered"; via speaking about something related, half of the time in casual conversation and nothing more.

So, unless Retrospec can also control what we choose to converse about with each other, then this is conflicting information.

Unless both are possible.

We're gonna file this under 'posts that will be ironic after a few regains'

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2017-03-28 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why people are so sure that they're memories, not just dreams. They're triggered by something? Like a song on the radio reminding you of some time back in high school you've forgotten?

Then how can they be offering something like that as a prize? Pretty sure if somebody had cracked the problem of imperfect human recall and could get you to remember something at will, we'd have heard about it.

Not even that. All it takes is a word, or a gesture. For instance, I was entertaining a conversation about being caught in the snow, and later I remembered being on a train with a blizzard swirling all around.

[Ardyn seems to have reached the point where he doesn't mind mentioning these memories in a vague manner, even on a public forum.]

That's the question, isn't it? Perhaps it works both ways. Maybe there's a "key", and maybe some memories are delegated to being triggered.

I'm no expert on memory, but, fun question: do we know anybody who is?

I'm looking back over some of my school notes, and did we do this in your class or somebody else's? There's a discussion of supposed false memory implantation in witnesses. You can get them to state things that they originally believed were not true if you ask enough leading questions, especially if you're coming from a place of authority. Children witnesses are especially susceptible. They just start agreeing with you after a while.

That specific model isn't exactly what we're seeing here. Everybody's pretty confident that what they're seeing is true, even if it seems impossible?

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-03-30 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems impossible, and by all accounts it should be. But in my case I know what I experienced must have been real. I'm certain in a way I can't explain.

Of course, that's hardly proof either. But if these are false memories, then they're effortlessly and suddenly implanted. No leading questions, no consistent or constant power of suggestion. Quite frankly, it's mind-boggling.
