Hello and happy new year! A lot of poll results came in from R&D and we've almost fixed taste all the way. Horses are almost fixed, too. We've been working pretty much non-stop around the holidays to stabilize everything, so I hope this works! Just so you guys know, while we were working on fixing the original problems we received some alerts of residual effects outside of our usual domain. Don't worry though! Remember what I said a while ago? We're still moving more resources around into better defenses to protect the city from huge storms like last summer. We'll be taking care of that really soon and isolating the unknown problem. I wish I could tell you more, but we're all working overtime here to finish the final stages of a big project. No matter what happens you guys should be safe while we finish up, so just stay calm, okay? Don't get too reckless! Joanne Wiseman Technician 2nd class Retr spec IncorporatedAs of this post taste tier 4 has been icly regained; tier 5 will go into effect on Saturday, January 6th at 9pm EST and taste will be fully restored!
Per the mod plotting post, you may use this post to obtain this month's freebie! This month's freebie can be earned by turning in a thread on this post that has 10 or more consecutive comments from you. Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. |

Not the ones we're getting that are from our other lives, or our previous worlds, or whatever. I mean--
Our lives in this world, up to now. Growing up outside this city, or I guess even inside it. . . . All of that really did happen. Didn't it?

Wow, that's so generous of you!
I work at Starbucks.
Not the on-campus one, but the one that's close to campus.

We're friends now.
[Starbucks is the magic word!]

Gosh, really? I guess that is nice, since everyone has the same idea of what reality is or whatever. Though I suppose this experience is going to be very surreal no matter what.
Um, but have you been okay?
I mean
I wasn't really in touch with anyone for a while, so I'm really sorry if . . . anything happened? I guess?
no subject
nothing bad happened to me
in fact nothing has really happened to me at all
no subject
Really, nothing?

That's definitely possible. I've thought about that a little.
But it's strange, isn't it? I mean, even if they are directly manipulating our brains, you would think they would sort of use the existing architecture. Like, I would assume that if they were fiddling with our sense of sight, they'd do that by messing with the optic nerves/occipital lobe/etc. But in that case, if they were messing with taste, it seems like it would involve a lot of workarounds and be a hassle to do it in a way that was actually dependent on a food category instead of the, you know, existing gustatory system.
I mean they still might be doing that. idk
The whole thing is really weird
Re: Celine
Try not to let it consume you.

It's more like, I'm just trying to figure out what sort of internal logic is at work, if any.
But I should probably leave that to smarter people.

Hmm
In that case, why not add a bunch of ginger and white pepper, too?
no subject
Some damn tasty ones, by the sound of it to boot! Anything else you'd add? How about spices?

I'm just very curious! Like, how could they possibly get the video into those strange objects? It doesn't seem like it should work.
no subject
I suppose we take older technology for granted. Even I do not fully understand how one works.
The tapes, I believe, use a kind of magnetic tape in order to produce the video and sound a VCR can read. But other than that, I suppose my age does not help me with knowing with an absolute certainty...
I may have one lying around though, if that is something you would find useful.

What movies do you have for it?

That's an understatement. The whole thing is way too ridiculous and bizarre to be real, and the fact that apparently it is is the most bizarre and ridiculous thing of all.
Ummm have you been ok?
no subject
So far so good etc.
I mean
Aside from the weirdness, ya know?
What about you?

Hmmmm
I mean, I guess nothing super horrible has happened, so
There you have it!

I don't know.
I'd like to think that if I had the choice between putting them through the same thing I'm going through, and knowing they don't care at all, I'd choose the latter . . .
Even if it's only better for them, it's also kind of better for me if I can feel a bit more at ease knowing that they're all right.
Of course, it's easy to say that now, since I don't actually have any choice in the matter at all.
And maybe that's just me being a gross martyr about it or something anyway. Like as a coping mechanism. lol
Ann
Yes, but now I'm wondering why I thought that.
Its name is in Japanese, so maybe I figured it was a flavor that mostly only Japanese people are familiar with . . . and 'uni' sounds a bit like 'umami' . . . and white people don't eat sea urchin that much, do they?
no subject
I don't think they do, honestly. I don't ever remember my mom eating it unless my dad prepared it for dinner or something.
You're Japanese, then?

Howard
Does that mean you'd be more ok with it if they made things really weird and awful, but then they just stayed that same way forever?
I mean, it'd be a change of pace at first, but we'd get used to it eventually I guess.
no subject
that would be great

Jamie Doh I guess a total wipe would be easier at the outset, but I don't know . . . If what they do is alter the way people feel about the memories while leaving them mostly intact, that's simpler in the long run, isn't it? Assuming the goal is for those people to keep living in the city as though it is normal and real, and not go looking for answers.
