russian intensifies
[When you wake up on this fine morning and check your Retrospec feed, you'll find... Russian spam? It begins - ]
Доброе утро. Меня зовут Аня. [ - and it continues on from there, resulting in a full paragraph.
For anyone who can read Cyrillic, they'll find the following message: Good morning. My name is Anya. Is anyone able to understand this? I recognize it as Cyrillic, as Russian, however I don't recall ever being able to speak this language. I woke up and suddenly it's all I knew. If the people on here remember horses, maybe they remember me speaking differently? Properly? Maybe? Please let me know.
In an entirely separate text, she tries again. In two more languages.]
おはようございます。私の名前はAnyaです。わかりますか?これは日本語です。でも昨日でAnyaは日本語を話しません。
[ - and that also goes on. An English message, with the same approximate fluency level as the Japanese, to explain the whole situation is finally provided at the end. Third try's the charm?]

Normally Anya is full of life. There's a skip in her step, there's a smile on her face, there's a whole-hearted willingness to tackle the day and everything that it brings her. It was easy to call Anya cheerful and friendly.
That doesn't appear to be the case anymore.
She avoids her friends. She ducks her head and doesn't make eye contact at school. She doesn't open her mouth to speak once, brows furrowed and lips pressed into a thin line.
Yet with her head bowed as it is, it's hard to steer clear of others, isn't it? Which is why she bumps into you - somewhere. She still wanders, even if she isn't at her best. Whether it's at school, at the dance studio, wandering around the city, she seems to have accidentally run right into you.
Startled, she exclaims in smooth Russian:]
Извините! [Then her eyes widen and she seems to pause, having to take a sincere moment to recall the words she's looking for. Even now, a distinct Russian accent colors her words.] Ah, um... I'm sorry...
[There's no helping the sad, defeated look on her face - but Anya is still a very gentle girl. Even though she wants to be by herself, she finds herself looking up to whoever she ran into uncertainly.]
Are you okay...?
[ b: секрет
Distracted as she is, Anya isn't really noticing any of the secrets that are posted around today - or her own. So there's a neat little sign posted on her back, whether it's detailing something small like:]
i ) Anastasia sometimes sneaks out to climb the rooftop of her house even though her mother has told her not to.
ii ) Anastasia used to be a cheerleader.
[Or something a little bit more telling like:]
iii ) Anastasia doesn't like to be left alone.
iv ) Anastasia is too scared to be an idol anymore.
[ ooc: anya's regain was her canon language tick! an example can be found here! complete with sprinkles of Russian and accent. an additional note is that if you hover over the different alphabets, the exact translation should come up! AND FINALLY, Anya's hair used to be the lightest shade of the blonde in the world - and now it's gone full silver, but that's the least of her problems.]

глаза? You are not the only one with new eyes.
[though she at least knows better than to specify exactly who]
But ah... [there's a little nod] Yes. Um. Now... Anya speaks like this.
[a gesture to her mouth, as if that'll be able to explain it? her accent is pretty pronounced even though it definitely didn't exist at all.]
And my hair? [she pulls on the end of a lock, which has gone full silver] Я... I don't know what to do.
no subject
(for now. She hasn't discovered her other little gift yet)]
It must be hard being like this all of a sudden. I know I had trouble when I first got to America.
[She was fortunate in that her education had given her a much more thorough understanding of English than most. Any other languages she was taught she's likely far from fluent in, so she doesn't bother with them nowadays.
But despite that, it was still hard going from speaking Japanese on the daily to English, when the latter was reserved solely for educational settings before then.]
...but I don't know what to do either. I'm not sure if this is something that'll just go away, either.
[But...
It's not like Anya's a different person. She's just got a bit of difficulty with speaking now and is feeling a bit upset over it, but Anya is still Anya.
And since that's the case, she at least knows how to comfort her. So for quite literally the first time since they've met, she steps forward and hugs Anya, rather than their usual hugged-by-anya-and-reluctantly-reciprocating setup.]
But...you'll be okay. I promise.
no subject
Anya's surprised - she's claimed most of her hugs today, mostly because she was so overwhelmed with emotion that she sort of immediately sought comfort and sanctuary from people that were by her immediately. But now there's Nobu stepping forward to hug her and Anya leans into it automatically.
She returns the hug because even if she doesn't have the right words, she's still... well herself.
Who just happens to be needy.
So her voice is small, hesitant, as she asks to reaffirm:]
Promise?
no subject
[She pats Anya's back, then gives it a little comforting rub.]
If it's easier for you, I'll even devote all my time to learning Russian. I'll be fluent so fast everyone will think the same thing happened to me.
[Anya's very precious to her, after all.
A lot of people in Recolle are, in fact. So saying this kind of thing just comes without a second thought.]
no subject
Anya blinks in confusion at that, apparently startled even as she pulls back from the hug just enough that she can look at Nobu directly, her expression a mix of excited and surprised and just a pinch doubtful.
She's been frustrated not having all the words she wants - why would people put themselves in the same situation for her?]
почему...? Why? You would... do that?
no subject
[She stares at Anya for a moment, quietly, eyes closing in a thoughtful manner.]
Because I've decided I don't like that sad expression of yours, that's why.
no subject
She looks overwhelmed by emotion - if only because she knows that Nobu's gestures of kindness come in small ways - and to be told that she would go out of her way to learn a language for her... just because she doesn't want to see her sad?
She blinks a few times - just to make sure she doesn't actually start tearing up even as she offers her a weak smile, sincere but uncertain.]
Then... улыбка? A smile is better?
[Ah, she shakes her head and her lips settle into something more demure, but still sweet.]
If... I have people like you, then... I do not have a cause to be sad.
благодарна... I am still very lucky and grateful.
no subject
[And here she is, trying to pass it as off as nothing. Trying to be cool...]
You should be. I had to take a lot of languages in high school...it was a hassle. I wouldn't do this for just anyone.
[She says that, but she's clearly trying to speak a little slower and clearer for Anya's sake.
tsundere as always]
no subject
Mm. Are you... неторопливый? Trying to make it simpler for Anya?
Thank you.
[seems like she's
just as observant as always, at least]
no subject
But she doesn't mind. She actually smiles a little at that, fondly.]
See? You're still the same as ever. You don't have anything to worry about.
no subject
The... same?
[Admittedly, it's a little difficult for her to see where that's coming from - when her head is a jumbled mess of Russian and even her hair has managed to change color.]
Do you think so?
